Systems and methods for packet payload mapping for robust transmission of data are described. For example, methods may include receiving, using a network interface, packets that each respectively include a primary frame and one or more preceding frames from the sequence of frames of data that are separated from the primary frame in the sequence of frames by a respective multiple of a stride parameter; storing the frames of the packets in a buffer with entries that each hold the primary frame and the one or more preceding frames of a packet; reading a first frame from the buffer as the primary frame from one of the entries; determining that a packet with a primary frame that is a next frame in the sequence has been lost; and, responsive to the determination, reading the next frame from the buffer as a preceding frame from one of the entries.

There are provided mechanisms for decoding a set of pictures from a bitstream. The method comprises obtaining a layer access, LA, indication identifying an LA picture in an access unit, wherein i) the LA picture has a layer identifier value that identifies a layer and ii) the LA picture is followed by other pictures in a decoding order. The method comprises determining, based on the LA indication, an LA position in the bitstream. The method comprises decoding the LA picture and the other pictures following the LA picture in the decoding order, wherein no parameter set that: a) has a particular type, b) has a layer identifier value equal to the layer identifier value of the LA picture, and c) precedes the LA position is used for decoding the LA picture.

Directed interpolation and data post-processing

An encoding device evaluates a plurality of processing and/or post-processing algorithms and/or methods to be applied to a video stream, and signals a selected method, algorithm, class or category of methods/algorithms either in an encoded bitstream or as side information related to the encoded bitstream. A decoding device or post-processor utilizes the signaled algorithm or selects an algorithm/method based on the signaled method or algorithm. The selection is based, for example, on availability of the algorithm/method at the decoder/post-processor and/or cost of implementation. The video stream may comprise, for example, downsampled multiplexed stereoscopic images and the selected algorithm may include any of upconversion and/or error correction techniques that contribute to a restoration of the downsampled images.

An image transmission device of a multifocal display system is described, for transmitting a set of N composite images based on a set of N primary images to an image reception device. N is greater or equal 2, and each of the N primary images has a focus distance associated therewith. A method is provided that includes receiving pictures of a video sequence in a video encoder, and encoding the pictures to generate a compressed video bit stream that is transmitted to a video decoder in real-time, wherein encoding the pictures includes selecting a picture to be encoded as a delayed duplicate intra-predicted picture (DDI), wherein the picture would otherwise be encoded as an inter-predicted picture (P-picture), encoding the picture as an intra-predicted picture (I-picture) to generate the DDI, wherein the I-picture is reconstructed and stored for use as a reference picture for a decoder refresh picture, transmitting the DDI to the video decoder in non-real time, selecting a subsequent picture to be encoded as the decoder refresh picture, and encoding the subsequent picture in the compressed bit stream as the decoder refresh picture, wherein the subsequent P-picture is encoded as a P-picture predicted using the reference picture.
