Systems and methods for encoding and playing back video at different frame rates using enhancement layers
Systems and methods in accordance with embodiments of this invention provide for encoding and playing back video at different frame rates using enhancement layers. In a number of embodiments, video is encoded using temporal scalability involving the creation of a base layer at a first frame rate and an enhancement layer including additional frames enabling playback at a second higher frame rate. The second higher frame rate can also be referred to as an enhanced frame rate. In a number of embodiments, the base and enhancement layers are stored in one or more container files that contain metadata describing the enhancement layer. Based on the capabilities of a playback device, it can select the particular frame rate at which to playback encoded video.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GOAL-ORIENTED GENERATION OF ADVERTISING SPOT SETS
A system and method are disclosed that, in an embodiment, are related to goal-oriented generation of advertising spot sets. The system and method each involve: receiving spot inventory data associated with a plurality of TV stations; receiving a rule variable associated with an advertising rule; receiving a goal variable associated with a goal; applying the advertising rule to select a plurality of spots that are eligible to form one or more spot sets; forming or generating at least one of the spot sets depending, at least in part, on a proximity to the goal; and generating an output associated with the generated spot set.
Methods and apparatus to correct misattributions of media impressions
Methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to correct misattributions of media impressions are disclosed. An example method includes obtaining first demographic-based impressions via a beacon transmitted in response to access to content by a first set of panelists, obtaining, from a database proprietor, second demographic-based impressions of the content on a second set of persons, forming a pseudo-inverse matrix determined based in part on the first impressions, and having a truncated value and a damped value to form third demographic-based impressions of the content on the second set of persons based on the second impressions, and computing at least partially corrected demographic-based impressions values by multiplying a vector of database proprietor impression data by the pseudo-inverse matrix.
Systems and methods for avoiding spoilers in presenting recording prompts relating to a competition
Systems and methods are described for a media guidance application (e.g., implemented on a user device) that avoids spoilers in presenting recording prompts relating to a competition by scheduling presentation of notifications according to the user profile.
Method and system for planning and running video-on-demand advertising
A method and system for planning and running video-on-demand (VOD) advertising includes a planner for planning advertising campaigns and an ad selector for running selected advertisements from selected ones of the campaigns. The campaigns are associated with household demographic classifications, video content category categories, household geographic locations, and/or video viewing times. In response to a viewer requesting a video, the selector selects the campaigns corresponding to the demographic classification associated with the viewer, the content category of the requested video, the geographic location associated with the viewer, and/or the viewing time at which the requested video is viewed. The demographic classification is determined by using an identifier of the viewer's set-top-box. The selector may select the campaigns corresponding to the content categories of the requested video. The content categories are determined by using an identifier associated with the requested video.
Selective Interactivity
A system may selectively deliver interactive portions of a piece of content, based for example on a recipient user's historical tendency to use interactive portions of prior content. Multiple levels of interactivity may be defined for a given piece of content, such as an advertisement, and different users may receive different levels of interactivity based on how much they use interactive features. Some users may receive no interactive features at all, while others may receive the interactive features, and despite the fact that all of the users' devices may be perfectly capable of processing the interactive features for the user. The omission from transmission may conserve bandwidth and transmission resources.
PROVIDING VISUAL GUIDANCE FOR PRESENTING VISUAL CONTENT IN A VENUE
Systems, methods, and computer program products can provide visual guidance on presenting content on a media surface of a venue. These systems, methods, and computer program products can operate by mapping visual content onto a media surface of the venue and a key feature unique to the visual content and/or the media surface being extracted. Thereafter, these systems, methods, and computer program products can retrieve an experiment metric corresponding to the visual content and/or the media surface and can determine a viewer location metric and/or a media surface metric based on the experiment metric and the key feature. These systems, methods, and computer program products can utilize the viewer location metric and/or the media surface metric to provide a hint of the attribute to a user.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR MANAGEMENT OF MEDIA CONTENT SUBSCRIPTIONS
Systems and methods are provided for managing subscriptions. A media guidance application obtaining viewing patterns of a subscriber and determining a first and second media package of interest to the subscriber. A first and second release schedule are obtained related to media content in the first and second media packages. The media guidance application predicts a first viewing impact of the first subscription and a second viewing impact of the second subscription, for the upcoming time period, wherein the viewing impact indicates a total predicted amount of time spent viewing the media packages in the upcoming time period. An available amount of time for viewing media in the upcoming time period is also determined. The media guidance application generates a subscription recommendation for the upcoming time period based on the first viewing impact, second viewing impact, and available amount of time for viewing media in the upcoming time period.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR VIEWING-SESSION CONTINUITY
The present disclosure is generally directed to media systems configured to receive and play media assets. In particular, methods and systems are provided for improved media asset session continuity across such media systems. Systems and methods are provided herein for continuing media asset sessions across media systems or media devices in a way designed to minimize manual intervention, for example, by determining a likelihood (e.g., a probability) of a user requesting media session continuation of an ongoing media asset or a segment thereof across two or more devices.
Streaming video
A method and system for controlling viewing of multimedia content includes collecting viewing control profiles and associated viewing control passwords via an Internet-protocol television portal, a web portal, and a mobile portal. The viewing control profile may be usable to restrict access to certain multimedia programs. The viewing control may be applied using a unified storefront application, providing access to multimedia content via the Internet-protocol television portal, the web portal, and the mobile portal, to offer and provide controlled access to the multimedia assets.
