Computer-implemented systems and methods of providing content to a user via communications between a content provider and a user over a plurality of disparate communication channels are provided. Content is provided to a user via a first transmission channel for presentation. Metadata associated with the content identifies a content event trigger at a point in the content. The content is displayed using a first presentation system. When the content event trigger is reached, supplemental content is provided to the user via a second transmission channel. The supplemental content is provided to the user during continued presentation of the content, and the supplemental content is provided to the user using a content providing system that is wholly separate from the first presentation system.

MEDIA CONTENT RECEPTION AND SWITCHING MANAGEMENT
20170339464 · 2017-11-23 · ·

A multimedia receiver and a method for managing switching reception of a first media content stream to a second media content stream. The multimedia receiver comprises a receiving device associated with a conditional access module and a media player configured to playback content from the first media content stream or the second media content stream. The receiving device is configured to receive a user command during playback of the first media content stream and to forward the user command to the conditional access module, the user command comprising at least one parameter defining reception of the second media content stream. The conditional access module is configured to up date, following reception of the user command, at least one descriptor in an information table associated with the first media content stream. The receiving device detects the information table update, generates an updated information table based on the at least one descriptor and forwards the updated information table to the conditional access module. The reception of the first media content stream is stopped and reception is switched to the second media content stream defined by the at least one parameter of the user command.

RECEPTION DEVICE, RECEPTION METHOD, TRANSMISSION DEVICE, AND TRANSMISSION METHOD

The present technology relates to a reception device, a reception method, a transmission device, and a transmission method, which are capable of implementing a high transmission rate by effectively utilizing a frequency band in channel bonding. A reception device receives a plurality of divisional streams obtained by distributing baseband (BB) frames of a BB stream which is as a stream of BB frames to a plurality of data slices and reconstructs an original BB stream on the basis of reconfiguration information which is in included in transmission control information and used for reconstructing the original BB stream from the plurality of divisional streams transmitted through the non-neighboring frequency bands when the plurality of divisional streams are transmitted through non-neighboring frequency bands. The present technology can be applied to, for example, channel bonding such as PLP bundling.

Systems and methods for enhanced multimedia signal broadcast, reception, data delivery, and data collection

New systems and methods allow for transmission of multiple types of content protocols over a unidirectional content delivery network, such as a television broadcast. Hardware and/or software used at the network transmission location (such as a television broadcast station) and hardware and/or software located at an endpoint (such as a home television, car infotainment system, or first responder location) allow for a native ATSC 1.0 signal to have embedded within it additional content that is not encoded as ATSC 1.0 content. The non-ATSC 1.0 content can be detected and segregated from ATSC 1.0 content so that the endpoint devices (such as a television receiver) will not attempt to render the non-ATSC 1.0 content (such as, e.g., ATSC 3.0 content or application specific content) as normal ATSC 1.0 programming. Instead, the non-ATSC 1.0 content will be separately decoded, assembled, and processed to allow for multiple types of content to be used and displayed by the endpoint, even though the broadcast signal was transmitted only as an ATSC 1.0 signal.

Systems, devices, and methods for streaming or otherwise delivering media content over a network are provided. One exemplary method of streaming media content over a network using a RS-DVR system involves receiving, at the RS-DVR system, a request for a portion of the media content from a media player on a client device via the network, receiving, at the RS-DVR system, the portion of the media content from an origin server on the network, buffering the portion of the media content at the RS-DVR system, and transmitting the portion of the media content to the media player on the client device. The portion of media content may be transmitted using a modified transport layer protocol, and in some embodiments, marked as non-cacheable.

PLAYING CONTROL METHOD AND TERMINAL

A playing control method and a terminal are provided. The method includes the following. A playing control instruction carrying a device identifier of a playing device is acquired. A content input port and a power output port that are integrated in a control terminal and correspond to the device identifier are opened. Power output ports of the control terminal other than the power output port corresponding to the device identifier and a power output port coupled to a display terminal are closed, multimedia contents via the content input port corresponding to the device identifier are received, and the multimedia contents are transmitted to the display terminal for output and display.

Remote media streaming

A redirection device for remote streaming media reroutes media content sent to the receiving device, typically located in the home of the subscriber, to the subscriber's mobile device such as a laptop or smartphone. Remote media streaming provides media recipients with capabilities for out-of-home (OOH) viewing for remotely rendering media content from a subscriber based receiving device to a personal electronic device. The remote streaming redirects media that has already been received by the subscription based receiving device, such that the redirection device forwards a rendering signal including the requested content to the rendering device based on the reported location. The redirected media stream therefore emanates from the redirection device as an independent transmission of content already received by the receiving device, and not as a separate transmission of media content from the content provider.
