The earpiece can include a transducer having a diaphragm configured to face toward the user's ear when the earpiece is positioned adjacent the user's ear, as well as an outlet vent in fluid communication with the transducer and a microphone. A support member within the earpiece includes a first opening aligned with the microphone and a second opening aligned with the outlet vent. An acoustic mesh extends over the first opening and the second opening, wherein the mesh has a substantially uniform acoustic impedance.

The remote microphone device further comprises a wireless communication interface comprising antenna and transceiver circuitry allowing the remote microphone device to transmit said processed signal comprising said spatially filtered signal or a further processed version thereof to said hearing aid system; a rechargeable battery; a casing having a planar structure with a form and size as a standard credit card; and a user interface configured to allow the user to control functionality of the remote microphone device. The invention may e.g. be used in hearing aid systems or headsets.

A microphone assembly can include a microphone capsule having a diaphragm and a diaphragm cover, a grill for protecting the microphone capsule, and a filter material placed between the grill and the diaphragm cover. The microphone assembly can include a first air gap between the grill and the filter material to create a first interface, a second air gap between the filter material and the diaphragm cover to create a second interface, and a third air gap between the diaphragm cover and a diaphragm to create a third interface. The first interface, the second interface, and the third interface are each configured to create turbulence to assist in draining off energy from plosives and wind and reduce intensity of disturbances at the diaphragm. The filter material may include a mesh and can be supported by a frame, and the frame may be configured to fit underneath the grill.
