Method and system for managing handover in radio access networks

A method and apparatus are provided for a handover (HO) in an evolved Node B (eNodeB). The method includes receiving a measurement report from a user equipment (UE); transmitting, to a mobility management entity (MME), a handover required message including information indicating whether the HO is for a circuit switched (CS) network or both a CS network and a packet switched (PS) network; and receiving, from the MME, a handover command message. The information is used, by the MME, to split a voice bearer from another bearer.

A communication apparatus includes first communication means for performing a wireless communication with another communication apparatus in a first communication method, second communication means for performing the wireless communication with another communication apparatus in a second communication method that is different from the first communication method, and sending means for sending a request message for requesting, by using the first communication means, a connection parameter for connecting to another communication apparatus via the second communication means, the request message including information about a communication service executable by the communication apparatus.

Method and apparatus for mobile terminal connection control and management of local accesses

An offloading method comprising the steps of: when the mobile terminal starts offloading in a first network, transmitting, by the mobile terminal, a first message to a mobility management device performing mobility management of the mobile terminal in a second network, the first message including information indicating that the offloading is started; transmitting, by the mobility management device, a second message to the mobile terminal, the second message including selection information in the second network, the selection information being for selecting, on basis of the first message, as to in which network offloading is to be performed; and deciding, by the mobile terminal, whether the offloading is to be maintained in the first network or whether new offloading is to be performed in the second network on a basis of the selection information included in the second message and judgment information in the first network that the mobile terminal has.

Wireless cross radio technology platforms data call recovery

A method, system- or apparatus-adapted to facilitate the recovery and continuation of a data communication active across different wireless technology platforms. The end-users wireless device is adapted and authorized to operate on such different wireless technology platforms managed through a server. Loss of data communication of an adapted wireless device on one wireless-platform is dealt with by allowing reconnection onto a different wireless-platform thereby allowing recovery of the original data communication and a continuation of the same previously originated data call, provided the time between loss of data or loss of coverage and the reconnection to the same or different wireless technology platform by the adapted wireless device is less than the timeout permitted by the adapted wireless device or by the adapted server through which all data communications or data calls are handled through.

Network control of terminals with respect to multiple radio access networks

There is provided a method, in a terminal, for handling connections to two radio access networks, the method comprising receiving (601), from a first radio access network, one or more threshold values and/or conditions for use in determining how the terminal should handle connections to a second radio access network, wherein the one or more threshold values and/or conditions are received in a message field used to carry threshold values and wherein at least one of the threshold values and/or conditions corresponds to a reserved value and/or condition that indicates an action for the terminal to take with respect to the second radio access network; and carrying out one or more actions with respect to the second radio access network, based on the received one or more threshold values and/or conditions (603).

Systems and methods are described herein that facilitate attaching a mobile station to a target wireless network through a physical connection between the mobile station and a supporting wireless network. Uplink and downlink channels between the mobile station and the target wireless network tunnel through the supporting wireless network. The systems and methods described herein thereby enable a mobile station with a single transceiver to become simultaneously attached to multiple wireless networks. The systems and methods described herein further support the handover of a mobile station from a generic access component of a mobile network to a radio access component and the handover of a mobile station from a radio access component of a mobile network to a generic access component of the mobile network thus facilitating rapid transitions from one mobile network air interface to another.

Maintaining a packet-switched signaling connection during handover between cells

Methods and apparatus are provided to reduce service interruption for intra-RAT and inter-RAT handover procedures. The UE performs a NAS signaling procedure via a NAS signaling connection in a mobile communication network. The UE monitors a radio resource status and determines whether a radio bearer has been or is being established for a RRC connection for data transmission. The UE determines whether to release the NAS signaling connection after completing the NAS signaling procedure based on whether the radio bearer has been established. In one embodiment, the UE monitors a radio resource status and determines whether a radio bearer has been established for a RRC connection for data transmission. The UE determines whether to start a timer upon completing the NAS signaling procedure based on whether the radio bearer has been or is being established.
