SERVICE AVAILABILITY IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
20220038925 · 2022-02-03 ·

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for monitoring a service availability associated with a service of a wireless communication network. A service availability status may indicate availability of the service. A user equipment (UE) may measure signal quality or signal strength associated with frequencies that are related to services of interest to the UE. The UE may manage a service relationship for the service associated with the service availability status. For example, the UE may transmit a radio resource control (RRC) message, an non-access stratum (NAS) message, or other message to indicate the service availability status to the wireless communication network. Alternatively, or additionally, the UE may provide an indication of the service availability status to an application processor or upper layer of the UE when the service availability status changes.

System and method for providing power saving mode enhancements in a network environment

A method is provided in one example embodiment and may include determining that a periodic timer for a user equipment (UE) is about to expire; communicating to an application service, prior to expiration of the periodic timer for the UE, an indication associated with an availability of the UE to receive data from the application service; and communicating the data from the application service to the UE upon receiving the indication. In some cases, the method can include registering, by the application service, to receive the indication from a Mobility Management Entity (MME) or a serving General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) support node (SGSN), wherein the registering is performed via a service capability exposure function (SCEF) in communication with the MME or the SGSN and the application service.

Technologies for controlling discontinuous reception operation

The disclosure relates to methods for improving the DRX operation of a UE by introducing an additional DRX wake-up cycle, which runs in parallel to the short and/or long DRX cycle. The DRX wake-up cycle defines time intervals after which the UE starts monitoring the PDCCH for a wake-up duration of time; the UE does not perform any other operation during the wake-up duration apart from monitoring the PDCCH. The time intervals of the wake-up cycle between the wake-up durations are preferably shorter than the one of the DRX long cycle, and may have the same or a shorter length than the ones of the DRX short cycle. The wake-up duration may be as long as the on-duration of the DRX short/long cycle, or may be preferably much shorter, such as only one or a few subframes.

Wireless sensor unit communication triggering and management

Various embodiments of wireless ambient sensor unit are presented. The sensor unit may include a wireless transceiver configured to transmit sensor data and to receive instructions. The sensor unit may include a sensor configured to measure an ambient condition. The sensor unit may include a controller in communication with the wireless transceiver and the sensor. The controller may be configured to compare data measured about the ambient condition to a stored threshold while the wireless ambient sensor unit is functioning in a low-power mode. The controller may be configured to exit the low-power mode in response to the comparison of the data with the stored threshold. The controller may be configured to cause the data measured about the ambient condition to be transmitted by the wireless transceiver as one or more messages in response to the comparison to the stored threshold.

Method and apparatus for providing power saving of monitoring for device-to-device communication in a wireless communication system

A method and apparatus are disclosed from the perspective of a second User Equipment (UE) for performing sidelink communication. In one embodiment, the method includes the second UE being (pre-)configured with a sidelink resource pool in a carrier or cell, wherein a DRX (Discontinuous Reception) pattern is associated to the sidelink resource pool. The method also includes the second UE selecting a resource in the sidelink resource pool based on the DRX pattern, wherein a specific message becomes available for transmission in the second UE. The method further includes the second UE transmitting the specific message on the resource to a plurality of UEs comprising at least a first UE.

Power management of communication devices

A method for reducing power consumption in a communication device. The method includes determining, by the communication device, that a packet transmitted on a communication medium is not intended for the communication device and estimating a length of the packet. If the length is greater than a first threshold but less than a second threshold, selecting a first group of components of the communication device to which to reduce power. If the length is greater than the second threshold, selecting a second group of components of the communication device to which to reduce power. The second group of components includes the first group of components. The method includes reducing power to the selected group of components.

Apparatus, system, and method for toggling carrier aggregation

An apparatus, system, and method optimize a manner in which carrier aggregation (CA) is used. The apparatus comprises a transceiver and processor. The transceiver is used to establish a connection with a network including first and second network components used for a CA functionality. The processor implicitly deactivates the SCell while the CA functionality is enabled by the network by determining that the CA functionality is enabled by the network, determining that the SCell is one of out-of-service (OoS) and effectively OoS when the second network component is reachable by the apparatus and a connection parameter with the second network component is below a predetermined threshold, transmitting a channel quality indicator (CQI) value of zero for the SCell to the first network component to implicitly deactivate the SCell, and utilizing a low power consumption state where monitoring of the SCell is terminated.

Radio network node, user equipment and methods performed in a wireless communication network

Embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a user equipment, UE (10), for communicating in a wireless communication network. The UE (10) receives a wake-up signal with a multibit indication from a radio network node (12), wherein the multibit indication comprises a first bit indicating to start or not to start, for a first cell, an on-duration timer at one or more of the next occurrence of an on-duration, and a second bit indicating to apply dormancy or non-dormancy behavior on a second cell at the next occurrence of an on-duration for the second cell. The UE (10) further performs an action related to the wake-up signal taking the received multibit indication into account.
