SHIELDED SIGNAL VIAS IN PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARDS FOR HIGH-FREQUENCY AND BROADBAND SIGNALS
A printed circuit board (PCB) core structure is provided for the transition of signals from one side of a PCB to an opposing side of the PCB. The PCB core structure may include a laminated core including an inner core including a plurality of conductive layers (N layers), a first dielectric layer, a first conductive trace disposed over the Nth conductive layer on a first side of the laminated core. The PCB core structure may also include a signal via extending from a first conductive layer to an Nth conductive layer through the laminated core, the signal via configured to connect the first conductive trace to a pin or a second conductive trace on a second side of the laminated core. The PCB core structure may also include a shielding structure surrounding the signal via and partially extending from the first conductive layer to the Nth conductive layer. The PCB core structure may also include a cavity removing a portion of the shielding structure in the Nth conductive layer and filled with a dielectric material. The cavity filled with the dielectric material prevents the first conductive trace from shorting to the shielding structure. The PCB core structure may be fabricated by using a single-lamination cycle.
Ceramic electronic component
A ceramic electronic component that includes an electronic component body having a superficial base ceramic layer; a surface electrode on a surface of the electronic component body, a peripheral section of the surface electrode having an opening therein; and a covering ceramic layer covering the peripheral section of the surface electrode and the opening therein.

A transaction device includes a metal layer with one or more discontinuities in the metal layer. Each discontinuity comprises a gap in the metal layer extending from the front surface to the back surface, including at least one discontinuity that defines a path from the device periphery to the opening. A transponder chip module is disposed in the opening. A booster antenna is in communication with the transponder chip module. The device may include at least one fiber-reinforced epoxy laminate material layer. The transponder chip module and the booster antenna may comprise components in a payment circuit, with the metal layer electrically isolated from the payment circuit. The booster antenna may be formed on or embedded in the fiber-reinforced epoxy laminate material layer. Processes for manufacturing transaction devices including a metal layer with one or more fiber-reinforced epoxy laminate material layers are also disclosed.
Method for forming board assembly with chemical vapor deposition diamond (CVDD) windows for thermal transport
A method for forming a board assembly includes identifying a location of a hot-spot on a semiconductor die and cutting an opening in a circuit board corresponding to the location of the identified hot-spot. A Chemical Vapor Deposition Diamond (CVDD) window is inserted into the opening. A layer of thermally conductive paste is applied over the CVDD window. The semiconductor die is placed over the layer of thermally conductive paste such that the CVDD window underlies the hot-spot and such that a surface of the semiconductor die is in direct contact with the layer of thermally conductive paste.
