High-capacity electrodes with active material coatings on multilayered nanostructured templates
Provided are battery electrode structures that maintain high mass loadings (i.e., large amounts per unit area) of high capacity active materials in the electrodes without deteriorating their cycling performance. These mass loading levels correspond to capacities per electrode unit area that are suitable for commercial electrodes even though the active materials are kept thin and generally below their fracture limits. A battery electrode structure may include multiple template layers. An initial template layer may include nanostructures attached to a substrate and have a controlled density. This initial layer may be formed using a controlled thickness source material layer provided, for example, on a substantially inert substrate. Additional one or more template layers are then formed over the initial layer resulting in a multilayer template structure with specific characteristics, such as a surface area, thickness, and porosity. The multilayer template structure is then coated with a high capacity active material.

A BUCKLING RESISTANT CURRENT COLLECTOR
A wire mesh including a warp which includes a first nickel alloy wire having a first peak tensile strength; and a weft which includes a wire including nickel having a second peak tensile strength, wherein the first peak tensile strength is greater than or equal to the second peak tensile strength, is provided. A current collector and a zinc-air battery that includes the wire mesh are also provided.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FORMING BUNDLES OF NANOFILAMENTS
A device can be used as an electrode for a lithium-ion battery. The device comprises an electrically conductive substrate to the surface of which nanofilaments having an ion-absorbing coating are applied. The nanofilaments are combined by the application of light into a plurality of bundles, each having multiple nanofilaments. A spacer gap is formed between neighboring bundles.

Biocompatible wire battery
A rechargeable electrochemical battery in the form of a single or multi-stranded wire assembly may be utilized as a power source for any number of implantable or non-implantable medical devices. As the wire form battery may be scaled to micro size, it may be utilized to power medical devices that were traditionally non-active devices, but which may be enhanced with active components. The wire form battery may be cut to size for a particular application which provides the same open circuit voltage regardless of how the wire is ultimately configured and the length of the wire utilized. Although the battery is in wire form, various arrangements of the components within the battery are also possible.
