The sole structure has a first hardness and the protuberance has a second hardness greater than the first hardness.

The plate includes a forefoot portion with lateral, medial and central longitudinal extensions, and a heel portion with a heel cup and a heel flange extending outwardly from the heel cup. The central and lateral longitudinal extensions are joined by a bridge. The top midsole layer is seated within the heel cup and does not cover the upper surface of the heel flange. The bottom midsole layer underlies and supports the heel flange.

The insole, which is formed with a second compressible material distinct from the first compressible material, includes opposing upper and lower insole surfaces, multiple protrusions projecting from the lower insole surface and interleaved with the midsole protrusions, and multiple pockets recessed into the lower insole surface and interleaved with the insole protrusions. Each midsole protrusion nests within a respective insole pocket, while each insole protrusion nests within a respective midsole pocket.

The first reinforcing member includes a first bar, and the second reinforcing member includes a second bar. The first bar is located on a medial foot side from the second bar. A portion of the first bar disposed in a midfoot portion extends along an oblique direction crossing both a front-rear direction and a left-right direction, and a portion of the second bar disposed in the midfoot portion extends crossing the left-right direction. The portion of the first bar disposed in the midfoot portion and the portion of the second bar disposed in the midfoot portion are located at least in part with a distance therebetween.

Stacked cushioning arrangement for sole structure

A sole structure for an article of footwear is provided. The sole structure includes an outsole having a ground-engaging surface and an upper surface formed on an opposite side of the outsole than the ground-engaging surface. A first cushion is disposed proximate to a medial side of the sole structure and includes a first fluid-filled chamber attached to the upper surface of the outsole and a second fluid-filled chamber attached to the first fluid-filled chamber and disposed between the first fluid-filled chamber and the upper. A second cushion is disposed proximate to a lateral side of the sole structure and includes a third fluid-filled chamber attached to the upper surface of the outsole and a fourth fluid-filled chamber attached to the third fluid-filled chamber and disposed between the third fluid-filled chamber and the upper. The second cushion is fluidly isolated from the first cushion.

The midsole further includes a deformation region within the midsole, wherein the deformation region has a volume greater than that of a single expanded particle and is positioned so that it allows a sideward deformation of the material of the first sole region under a pressure load on the sole.

Moreover, the method includes providing a preform bladder member within the cavity of the mold, wherein the preform bladder member including a first member and a second member. The method additionally includes forming a bladder from the first and second members using the mold. Also, the method includes attaching the first member to the plate using the mold. Attaching the first member to the plate includes shaping the first member according to surfaces of the rib.
