Embodiments of the instant disclosure relate to portable radio mounting apparatus (PRMA). The PRMA includes a main body, landing pad, antenna element(s), RF connector conductively coupled to the antenna element, retaining element and has “open” and “closed” states. Landing pad laterally extends from the main body and includes the antenna element(s) and a first end pivotably coupled to main body. RF connector is conductively coupled to the antenna element. In the open state, the landing pad is pivoted away from the main body and thereby exposes the retaining element; the retaining element receives a portable radio and thereby demountably secures the portable radio to the main body; and the RF connector demountably and conductively couples to the portable radio. In the close state, landing pad is pivoted towards the main body and wrapped around the portable; and is demountably coupled to the main body.

An electronic device may include wireless circuitry with a baseband processor, a transceiver, and an antenna. The antenna may be coupled to one or more antenna tuning elements for tuning the antenna over multiple communications (frequency) bands of interest. The baseband processor may be configured to simultaneously broadcast, over a digital interface, an aggregate message that includes control bits for adjusting multiple antenna tuning elements coupled to the digital interface. Adjusting multiple antenna tuning elements by issuing a single broadcast command can help optimize interface efficiency while maintaining compatibility with existing industry standards.

An electronic device may have an antenna module with a triplet of antennas on a substrate. The triplet may include a first antenna with a radiating element formed from a patch on the substrate and second and third antennas having radiating elements formed from patches on that extend across a smaller lateral area than the patch in the first antenna. The patches in the second and third antennas may have extended electrical lengths formed from parasitic patches embedded within the substrate that are coupled to opposing edges of the patches by fences of conductive vias. The antenna module may include phased antenna arrays for conveying centimeter/millimeter wave signals. Signal conductors for the antennas may be distributed across multiple metallization layers of the substrate.

First-band probes excite first magneto-electric dipoles. Second-band horizontal patches may be on a third layer with pairs of the second-band horizontal patches defining second electrical dipoles for a second operating band. At least each subset of the second-band vias are connected to a given one of the second-band horizontal patches and to the antenna ground layer to define second magnetic dipoles for the second operating band. Second-band probes excite the second magneto-electric dipoles as defined by the second electric dipoles and the second magnetic dipoles.
