PHASED ARRAY LINE FEED FOR A REFLECTOR ANTENNA
A phased array line feed for a reflector antenna, including a plurality of substantially parallel metallic rods and a phase/power switching matrix electrically connected to the metallic rods. The phase/power switching matrix may steer a beam of the reflector antenna by adjusting the phase and/or power difference between the metallic rods. The phased array line feed may also include a plurality of substantially parallel metallic disks. The metallic rods may extend through the metallic disks substantially perpendicular to the metallic discs. The metallic discs may be equally spaced and the diameter of the metallic disks may decrease along the length of the metallic rods. Alternatively, the diameters of the metallic discs may be equal and the distances between the metallic discs may decrease along the length of the metallic rods.

An antenna array system (“AAS”) for directing and steering an antenna beam is described in accordance with the present disclosure. The AAS may include a feed waveguide having a feed waveguide length, at least two directional couplers in signal communication with the feed waveguide, at least two pairs of planar coupling slots along the feed waveguide length, and at least two horn antennas.
Satellite antenna having fiducial devices for compensating physical distortion and associated methods
A satellite antenna includes first and second extensible booms and first and second sets of ribs carried by the respective first and second extensible booms. A Radio Frequency (RF) reflective film is carried by the first and second sets of ribs. First and second phased array antenna feeds are carried by the respective first and second extensible booms and directed toward the RF reflective film. First and second sets of fiducial devices are carried by the respective first and second sets of ribs. At least one camera is directed toward the first and second sets of fiducial devices to sense a physical distortion of the RF reflective film. A controller cooperates with the at least one camera to operate the first and second sets of phased array antenna feeds to account for sensed physical distortion of the RF reflective film.
1D PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA FOR RADAR AND COMMUNICATIONS
A phased array antenna system has at least one trough reflector, each trough reflector having at least one phased array located at a feed point of the reflector, and an array of elements located near to a point equal to one half of a center transmission wavelength. A method of decoding a receive signal includes propagating a transmit signal through a transmit and a receive path of a phased array to generate a coupled signal, digitizing the coupled signal, storing the digitized coupled signal, receiving a signal from a target, and using the digitized coupled signal to decode the signal from the target. A method of modeling the ionosphere includes transmitting measuring pulses from an incoherent scattering radar transmitter, receiving incoherent scatter from the transmitting, and analyzing the incoherent scatter to determine pulse and amplitude of the incoherent scatter to profile electron number density of the ionosphere.

PULSE DIGITAL MIMO RADAR SYSTEM
A chip-implementation of a millimeter wave MIMO radar comprises transmitters for transmitting short bursts of digitally modulated radar carrier signals and receivers for receiving delayed echoes of those signals. Various signal formats defined by the number of bits per transmit burst, the transmit burst duration, the receive period duration, the bitrate, the number of range bins, and the number of bursts per scan, facilitate the choice of modulating bit patterns such that when correlating for target echoes over an entire scan, the correlation codes for different ranges and different transmitters are mutually orthogonal or nearly so. In the event of imperfect orthogonality, simple orthogonalization schemes are revealed, such as subtraction of strong already-detected target signals for better detecting weaker signals or moving targets that are rendered non-orthogonal by their Doppler shift.
