Injection locking resonator fiber optic gyroscope
Systems and methods for an injection locking RFOG are described herein. In certain embodiments, a system includes an optical resonator. The system also includes a laser source configured to launch a first laser for propagating within the optical resonator in a first direction and a second laser for propagating within the optical resonator in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction, wherein the first laser is emitted at a first launch frequency and the second laser is emitted at a second launch frequency. Moreover, the system includes at least one return path that injects a first optical feedback for the first laser and a second optical feedback for the second laser, from the optical resonator, into the laser source, wherein the first and second optical feedbacks respectively lock the first and second launch frequencies to first and second resonance frequencies of the optical resonator.
Dual-ring-modulated laser that uses push-push/pull-pull modulation
A dual-ring-modulated laser includes a gain medium having a reflective end coupled to an associated gain-medium reflector and an output end, which is coupled to a reflector circuit through an input waveguide to form a lasing cavity. The reflector circuit comprises: a first ring modulator; a second ring modulator; and a shared waveguide that optically couples the first and second ring modulators together. The first and second ring modulators have resonance peaks that are tuned to be offset in alignment from each other to provide an effective reflectance having a flat-top response, which is aligned with an associated lasing cavity mode. The first and second ring modulators are driven in tandem based on the same electrical input signal, whereby the resonance peaks of the first and second ring modulators shift wavelengths in the same direction during modulation, and an effective reflectance stays within the flat-top wavelength range.
Efficient generation of spatially-restructurable high-order HG-modes in a laser cavity
A vertical external cavity surface emitting laser (VECSEL) based system in a linear single cavity configuration is configured to deliver light in higher-order Hermite-Gaussian transverse modes with Watt-level output power. Simultaneous and independent lasing of spatially-restructurable multiple high-order transverse modes that are collinearly-propagating at the output of such laser cavity is facilitated with the use of an optical pumping scheme devised to control positions of location at which the gain medium of the system is pumped (e.g., locations of focal spots of multiple pump beams on the gain-medium chip). An external astigmatic mode converter is utilized to convert such high-order Hermite-Gaussian modes into corresponding Laguerre-Gaussian modes.

Optical interconnects
The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for improving tolerances of in-plane optical alignment of optical interconnects. An example method includes depositing a first reflector with a first spectral reflectivity on an end of an optical fiber, coupling a laser to another end of the optical fiber, changing a spectral reflectivity of a region of the first reflector adjacent to the end of a core of the optical fiber from the first spectral reflectivity by exposure to the laser, resulting in a first reflector with multiple regions of spectral reflectivity, and coupling the first reflector to an integrated unit comprising an optical cavity deposited on a second reflector.
Suppression of higher-order lasing in a Brillouin laser using nested ring resonators
An optical resonator device, which can be implemented in a Brillouin laser, comprises a first waveguide ring resonator having a first diameter, and one or more second waveguide ring resonators adjacent to the first waveguide ring resonator. The one or more second waveguide ring resonators each have a second diameter that is less than the first diameter. The one or more second waveguide ring resonators optically communicate with the first waveguide ring resonator, such that an optical signal in the first waveguide ring resonator optically couples into the one or more second waveguide ring resonators. The one or more second waveguide ring resonators is configured such that when the optical signal resonates within the first waveguide ring resonator and the one or more second waveguide ring resonators, the optical signal within the first waveguide ring resonator is suppressed.
