MULTI-COLOR VISIBLE LIGHT SOURCE INCLUDING INTEGRATED VCSELS AND INTEGRATED PHOTONIC CAVITIES
A visible light source includes a substrate, a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser including an active semiconductor region configured to emit infrared light and a first reflector configured to reflect the infrared light emitted by the active semiconductor region, a second reflector configured to reflect the infrared light and form a vertical cavity for the infrared light with the first reflector, and one or more micro-resonators configured to receive the infrared light and generate visible light in one or more colors using the infrared light through optical parametric oscillation. The visible light source also includes one or more output couplers configured to couple the visible light in one or more colors from the one or more micro-resonators into free space or into a photonic integrated circuit.
LIGHT SOURCE DEVICE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
A light source device includes: a plurality of laser diodes that includes a first laser diode for emitting laser light of red color, a second laser diode for emitting laser light of green color, and a third laser diode for emitting laser light of blue color; a substrate directly or indirectly supporting the plurality of laser diodes; and a cap secured to the substrate and covering the plurality of laser diodes. The cap includes: a first glass portion configured to transmit the laser light that is emitted from the plurality of laser diodes, and a second glass portion. At least one of the first glass portion and the second glass portion comprises an alkaline glass region. The first glass portion and the second glass portion are bonded together via an electrically conductive layer that is in contact with the alkaline glass region. The first glass portion is bonded to the substrate.
Pixel array implemented on photonic integrated circuit (PIC)
An optoelectronic device includes a substrate and at least three emitters, which are disposed on the substrate and are configured to emit respective beams of light. A plurality of waveguides are disposed on the substrate and have respective input ends coupled to receive the beams of light from respective ones of the emitters, and curve adiabatically from the input ends to respective output ends of the waveguides, which are arranged on the substrate in an array having a predefined pitch. Control circuitry is configured to apply a temporal modulation independently to each of the beams of light.

A light emitting device includes: a base having a bottom face and a lateral part surrounding the bottom face and extending upwards from the bottom face, wherein the lateral part comprises a first stepped portion and a second stepped portion facing the first stepped portion; a first semiconductor laser element disposed on the bottom face and located between the first stepped portion and the second stepped portion in a top view, wherein the first semiconductor laser element is configured to emit light towards the second stepped portion; a first wiring region located on the first stepped portion; and one or more first wires, each having a first end that is connected to the first wiring region. At least one of the one or more first wires is electrically connected to the first semiconductor laser element.

A semiconductor laser device includes: a package includes a recess and an upper surface that has an outer peripheral surface and a bonding surface positioned between the recess and the outer peripheral surface, the bonding surface having inner corners on the recess side and outer corners on the outer peripheral surface side; at least one semiconductor laser element disposed in the recess of the package; and a light-transmissive member bonded to the bonding surface of the package. The radius of curvature of inner corners is greater than the radius of curvature of outer corners.
Light source unit, projection display device, and method for manufacturing light source unit
The light source unit includes a base provided with an opening, a support member fixed to the base at the opening, and a light source assembly fixed to the support member at the opening. The light source assembly includes a light source emitting laser light, a lens disposed on an optical axis of the laser light, and a holding member holding the light source and the lens. The support member has a convex receiving surface extending along the spherical surface so as to surround the optical axis when viewed from a direction parallel to the optical axis. The light source assembly is fixed to the support member by coupling the holding member to the receiving surface at a contact portion with the receiving surface. The receiving surface has a portion located on a side away from the optical axis with respect to a coupling part with the holding member.
LASER SYSTEMS UTILIZING FIBER BUNDLES FOR POWER DELIVERY AND BEAM SWITCHING
In various embodiments, the beam parameter product and/or beam shape of a laser beam is adjusted by coupling the laser beam into an optical fiber of a fiber bundle and directing the laser beam onto one or more in-coupling locations on the input end of the optical fiber. The beam emitted at the output end of the optical fiber may be utilized to process a workpiece.
INTELLIGENT VISIBLE LIGHT WITH A GALLIUM AND NITROGEN CONTAINING LASER SOURCE
A smart light source configured for visible light communication. The light source includes a controller comprising a modem configured to receive a data signal and generate a driving current and a modulation signal based on the data signal. Additionally, the light source includes a light emitter configured as a pump-light device to receive the driving current for producing a directional electromagnetic radiation with a first peak wavelength in the ultra-violet or blue wavelength regime modulated to carry the data signal using the modulation signal. Further, the light source includes a pathway configured to direct the directional electromagnetic radiation and a wavelength converter optically coupled to the pathway to receive the directional electromagnetic radiation and to output a white-color spectrum. Furthermore, the light source includes a beam shaper configured to direct the white-color spectrum for illuminating a target of interest and transmitting the data signal.
MICROMECHANICAL OPTICAL COMPONENT AND MANUFACTURING METHOD
A micromechanical optical component having a substrate, a spacer, and a cover, which are positioned one above the other and delimit a hermetically sealed cavity. A semiconductor laser is situated in the cavity, on the substrate. An optical element, which is attached to the spacer, is positioned in a beam path of the semiconductor laser. A method for manufacturing a micromechanical optical component is also described.
Wearable laser based display method and system
The present invention is directed to wearable display technologies. More specifically, various embodiments of the present invention provide wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection display systems where one or more laser diodes are used as light source for illustrating images with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projector systems that utilize transparent waveguides and blue and/or green laser fabricated using gallium nitride containing material. In another set of embodiments, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating projection systems having digital lighting processing engines illuminated by blue and/or green laser devices with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. In one embodiment, the present invention provides wearable augmented reality glasses incorporating a 3D display system with optical delivery to the eye using transparent waveguides. There are other embodiments as well.
