The invention relates to a universal wireless trainable transceiver unit with integrated bidirectional wireless interface functionality, and a method for same. Using a scan, push button or untrained channel mode, a user may enter into a wireless bidirectional interface mode of a trainable transceiver. The interface mode allows a user to select a sub-set of modes that include diagnostics, flash and vehicle interface. Each mode provides the trainable transceiver to communicate wirelessly in a bidirectional manner with another remote device.

Controlling device having multiple user interfaces

A controlling device having a plurality of user selectable operating modes, a user interface providing a plurality of function keys each operable to cause a transmission of at least one command to at least one of a plurality of appliances for commanding at least one operating function of the at least one of the plurality of appliances, and a light source for illuminating the user interface in multiple distinct colors. The light source is caused to illuminate the user interface in at least one of the multiple distinct colors as a function of a one of the plurality of operating modes in which the controlling device is currently placed.

The disclosure provides methods and systems for spatially remote controlling a network controllable device in a physical user environment. An exemplary method may include tracking, by a processor, a position and orientation of a remote control device based on sensor data. The sensors may be one or more of a gyroscope, accelerometer, and a magnetometer. Based on the tracking, a ray extending from the remote control device in a direction the remote control device is pointing is determined. The determined ray is compared to a predefined map, the predefined map including a spatial location associated with each of one or more network controllable devices. The method may include, based on the comparing, selecting a network controllable device of the one or more network controllable devices corresponding to the determined ray. In response to receiving a user input, a control signal is then transmitted to the selected network controllable device.
