Devices and methods using network load data in mobile cloud accelerator context to optimize network usage by selectively deferring content delivery
Network devices, servers, and modules operating within MCA capable to selectively defer delivery of non-time sensitive content are provided. A network device (315) includes a communication interface (410) configured to enable communication with a client device (310), and to receive a request for a content delivery from the client device (310). The network device also includes a processing unit (420) configured to determine whether to defer the request depending on a network load at a time when the request has been received.
Customer configuration of broadband services
Novel solutions to provide enhanced configurability of network access. Such solutions can provide, inter alia, enhanced utilization of network resources (including without limitation network aggregation devices, such as DSLAMs and the like). In an aspect of some solutions, a network aggregation device can divide an aggregate uplink bandwidth into a plurality of time slots. Some or all of the time slots can be reserved for different customers (subscribers). In another aspect of some embodiments, the time slots can be allocated in such a way as to simulate oversubscription of the aggregate uplink bandwidth.
System and method for optimizing revenue through bandwidth utilization management
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, determining a bandwidth utilization of a network, obtaining a request provided by equipment of a user to access requested network content by way of the network, and adjusting, responsive to the bandwidth utilization exceeding a threshold, a data service price for transporting the requested network content to the equipment of the user. A notification of the adjusted data service price is forwarded to the equipment of the user, and an updated request is obtained from the equipment o the user for providing the requested network content, wherein the updated request is responsive to the notification of the adjusted data service price. Transport of the requested network content to the equipment of the user is facilitated according to the updated request. Other embodiments are disclosed.
CONNECTED VEHICLE BANDWIDTH-BASED NETWORK SELECTION
Generally described, one or more aspects of the present application correspond to techniques for dynamic management of the network used for data transfer between a connected vehicle and a remote computing system. For example, during navigation a connected vehicle may switch between connections to a number of different networks, and the pricing of these networks may be periodically recalculated based on current network load. The disclosed techniques can select from among available networks to dynamically optimize the cost of data transfer, even as a vehicle navigates through different networks and as network pricing is changed.

System, method and apparatus for subscriber user interfaces
Methods, apparatus, and systems manage use of shared network resources among subscribers to a data communication service. In some implementations, a first metric is computed representing a subscriber's use of the shared network resources. A second metric may also be computed that represents the amount of network congestion of the shared network resources. Data derived from the first metric and the second metric may then be presented to the subscriber. The data may be transmitted to the subscriber over a network and/or the data may be displayed to the subscriber on an electronic display.
Methods and systems for adjusting user experience on a social networking service using quotas
A method of adjusting user experience on a social networking service includes setting a data-usage threshold for a plurality of features in the social networking service, providing the plurality of features to a user of the social networking service at an initial quality of service, and monitoring data usage by the user during a period of time in which the plurality of features is provided to the user. The method further includes, in response to a determination that the data usage by the user during the period of time satisfies the data-usage threshold: (1) reducing the quality of service for the user for one or more features of the plurality of features, and (2) providing the one or more features to the user at the reduced quality of service.
Method for non-economic incentive based user-network cooperation
Methods and apparatus for controlling a communication network (2) to deliver traffic to and/or from an end node (4) are presented. In an example method, a network node (8) receives information indicating a user-controllable selection at the end node (4) to have at least some of the end node (4)'s traffic delivered with a low priority level that is lower than a high priority level. Accordingly, the network node (8) controls the communication network to deliver at least some of the end node (4)'s traffic with said low priority level and awards one or more tokens accordingly. Furthermore, the network node (8) may receive information indicating a user-controllable selection at the end node (4) to have at least some traffic delivered with the high priority level. The network node (8) may accordingly redeem one or more tokens awarded to the end node (4) and controlling the communication network (2) to deliver at least some of the traffic with said high priority level.
CLIENT CENTRIC SERVICE QUALITY CONTROL
Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for managing a service quality for data consumption with a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), comprising determining a cost associated with obtaining the data, determining an amount of unused data in a monthly data plan, determining a preference for a content type related to the data: determining an amount of congestion in a network over which the data will be received, determining a desired service quality value based upon the cost, unused data, preference, and network congestion, comparing the desired service quality value to a set of representations of the data, wherein each of the representations is associated with a different service quality (for example, each of the representations may have an associated bitrate, and wherein each bitrate may be associated with a different service quality), and requesting the data at a representation having a quality closest to the desired service quality value.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A WIRELESS DEVICE IN A CELLULAR NETWORK
The present invention relates to a method for operating a wireless device in a cellular network, the wireless device operating with a base node of the cellular network, the method comprises upon noticing a barring indication received from the base node at the wireless device the step of suppressing access to the base node under the conditions: the wireless device is operating in an intensive use mode and the wireless device is operating in a non-privileged service.
