Method and apparatus for facilitating accessing home surveillance device data, preferably an IP camera video stream, by a remote user device at the remote user device's instigation, over the Internet through a home router, the facilitating including incorporating a smart gateway in local communication with the home router and in persistent or intermittent communication with a remote Internet server to facilitate communication of data over the Internet at the remote user device's request through direct communication between the remote user device and the smart gateway, the smart gateway in local communication With the home surveillance device such as an IP camera, the direct communication facilitated by a “hole punch” type of technique.

In one example, the present disclosure describes a device, computer-readable medium, and method for improving media quality at the network edge by encoding the media into a digital stream that is carried, end-to-end, to a peer edge device. For instance, in one example, a method includes initiating, by a first computing device, a connection to a second computing device, selecting, by the first computing device, a codec for encoding data into a data stream, wherein the codec is selected such that the data stream can be decoded by the second computing device without being transcoded by an intermediary, encoding, by the first computing device, the data into the data stream using the codec, and sending, by the first computing device, the data stream to the second computing device.

Embodiments include a system comprising a gateway that includes a processor coupled to sensors and/or network devices installed at a premises. The system includes a remote server coupled to the gateway and located remote to the premises. The gateway and/or the remote server includes data of the sensors and/or network devices. The system includes an application running on at least one of the gateway and the remote server. The application controls events corresponding to the data and/or the premises in response to content of the data. The system includes a client interface coupled to the gateway and/or the remote server. The client interface presents the data to client devices.

A system and method dynamically adjusting the rate at which incoming content data is transferred into a media gateway appliance, and the rate at which outgoing content data is provided to one or more client devices by the media gateway appliance. This dynamic adjustment is performed in accordance with a predetermined program and as a function of real-time data streaming rates and predetermined rate parameters and preferences. A method is provided. The method includes generating, by a 5.sup.th generation media streaming (5GMS) application provider, an edge configuration resource including at least one edge enabler client (EEC) capability specification, transmitting, by the 5GMS application provider, a request for provisioning an edge application server (EAS) to operate as a 5GMS application server (AS), the request including the edge configuration resource, and selecting, by the 5GMS application provider, the EAS to operate as the 5GMS AS based on the EAS being capable of performing the at least one EEC capability specification included in the edge configuration resource.

Aspects of the present disclosure involve systems, methods, computer program products, and the like, for utilizing a CIC value field in signaling information of a communication to provide an identification of the ingress network to an egress or receiving network of a long distance telecommunications network. The system and method provides for the provisioning of a signaling CIC for an ingress trunkgroup or network to a telecommunications network for downstream signaling purposes by overriding a received CIC value with a provisioned CIC value specific to the ingress network. This provisioned CIC value identifies the ingress network to the long distance network to the egress network for use by the egress network.

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for selecting an encoding specification for encoding audio and/or video data to be streamed between a user-device (11) and a remote device (28), where the user-device is operable to communicate with the remote device via a digital subscriber line (DSL, 13) for a portion of a path (29) between the user-device and the remote device, the DSL portion (13) extending between a user-side DSL modem device (22) and a DSL aggregation transceiver device (24). The method comprises: at the user-side DSL modem device (22) and/or the DSL aggregation transceiver device (24), collecting performance data in respect of data communications on the DSL portion (13); in dependence on the performance data collected, determining one or more data communication characteristics in respect of data communications on the DSL portion (13); and selecting an encoding specification for encoding the data to be streamed, the selection being made in dependence on the determined data communication characteristics.

Systems and methods for providing E911 services to a publicly-switched telephone network (PSTN) phone are described. In some embodiments, the systems and methods determine that the PSTN phone is connected to a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) adapter, identify an internet protocol (IP) address for an access point via which the adapter accesses an IP Multimedia System (IMS) network, determine a geographical location associated with the IP address, and enable E911 communications for the PSTN phone over the IMS network via the adapter based on the geographical location.
