Systems and methods for establishing a diagnostic transmission mode and communicating over the same

Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.

DSL neighborhood diagnostics

A Device Abstraction Proxy (DAP) interface receives a request for operational data relating to Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services provided to a plurality of DSL terminals in a DSL network by two or more providers. The DAP interface receives, in response to the request, the operational data, including operational data for a plurality of DSL lines coupled to the plurality of DSL terminals. The DAP then identifies at least two of the plurality of DSL lines as belonging to a common neighborhood of DSL lines, each of the at least two of the plurality of DSL lines respectively associated with at least two of the plurality of DSL terminals being provided the DSL services by different providers. Embodiments correlate a condition and/or a performance of one of the at least two DSL lines identified as belonging to the common neighborhood with a condition and/or performance of another one of the at least two DSL lines identified as belonging to the common neighborhood.

20190097682 · 2019-03-28 ·

Disclosed is a technique for estimating crosstalk between a first and second electrical transmission lines. The method comprises obtaining measurements of a received near end crosstalk, NEXT, signal, the NEXT signal being received at a first end of the second transmission line over a time period as a result of an electrical signal sent onto the first transmission line from its first end, the obtained measurements being in the time domain. Subsequently, a crosstalk coupling estimate is obtained per transmission line sub-interval by compensating the obtained measurements in the time domain of the received NEXT signal for round-trip attenuation of the sent signal from the first end of the first line to the sub-interval and back to the first end of the second line, and an estimate of a total crosstalk coupling is obtained by adding together at least some of the obtained crosstalk coupling estimates per transmission line sub-interval.

Methods, controllers, and machine-readable storage media for automated commissioning of equipment

Tools and techniques are described to automate commissioning of physical spaces. Controllers have access to databases of the devices that are controlled by them, including wiring diagrams and protocols, such that the controller can automatically check that each wire responds correctly to stimulus from the controller. Controllers also have access to databases of the physical space such that they can check that sensors in the space record the correct information for device activity, and sensors can cross-check each other for consistency. Once a physical space is commissioned, incentives can be sought based on commissioning results.

Measuring and analyzing data to generate recommendations associated with a digital subscription line (DSL)

According to examples, a system for measuring and analyzing data to generate recommendations associated with a digital subscription line (DSL). Data associated with a DSL is measured according to one or more performance counters. The data is analyzed with respect to one or more thresholds and an anomalous performance event is determined. Also, a recommendation with respect to an performance issue associated with the anomalous performance event is provided.

Dynamic line management

This invention relates to a method of dynamic line management (DLM) for a digital subscriber line. A quality of experience (QoE) measure is calculated for the digital subscriber line, and the QoE is recorded with the respective DLM line profile and also the line synchronization rate associated with the line profile. The QoE measure is preferably based on line parameters such as a count of the error rate on the line and loss of synchronizations on the line, averaged over a predetermined period of time. Other line parameters could be used in determining the QoE measure. When DLM exhausts all the available line profiles, the invention checks to see if the QoE associated with the line profile currently being applied is an improvement on the QoE of previously applied line profiles, and if it is an improvement, then the current line profile is maintained. However, if the new QoE is not an improvement to that associated with a previously applied line profile, then the invention reverts the line back to one of the earlier line profiles. The line profile selected to revert back to is one having the same QoE or better, and if there are multiple line profiles satisfying that condition, then the line profile that has the highest associated line synchronization rate is selected.
