A method is disclosed of encapsulating a device control protocol request for a device specific control function, the method including sending an initial request in an operation-id and a data field of an IPP request to a host device from a client device, the client device configured to support IPP client functionality; sending an initial response from the host device to the client device in a data field of the IPP response; sending a DCPI request for a requested action to the host device, wherein the DCPI request for the requested action is defined by device control protocol operation code and Type-Length-Value (TLV) fields contained in the data field of the IPP request; and sending a response to the client device, wherein the device control protocol response is contained in the data field of the IPP response and includes the status of the requested action and optional data.

A communicating apparatus receives a request command which requires a response, and determines whether the communication mode of a partner apparatus corresponding to the request command matches a communication mode executed by the self communicating apparatus. If it is determined that the communication mode of the partner apparatus matches the communication mode executed by the self communicating apparatus, the communicating apparatus transmits a response command to the request command. An information output apparatus includes a reader, circuitry, and an output device. The reader is configured to read user information from a recording medium storing the user information. The circuitry is configured to select, from a plurality of documents, one or more documents to be embedded with the user information as a selected document, determine whether the information output apparatus is connected to a network, instruct the reader to read the user information from the recording medium based on a determination indicating that the information output apparatus is not connected to the network, and embed the user information that is read from the recording medium in a specific area of the selected document. The output device is configured to output the selected document having the user information embedded therein.

A method of operating a cartridge chip installed in an imaging device including transmitting a first value to the imaging device in response to a first request from the imaging device; if the first value is accepted by the imaging device, (a) receiving an authentication command from the imaging device and (b) operating in a first mode of operation; if the value is not accepted by the imaging device, waiting for the imaging device to transmit a second request; transmitting a second value to the imaging device in response to a second request from the imaging device, the second value not equaling the first value; if the second value is accepted by the imaging device, (a) receiving an authentication command from the imaging device and (b) operating in a second mode of operation.

An information processing system comprises: an image processing device; an application server that provides with an application service for cooperation with the image processing device; a communication relay device that relays communications between the image processing device and the application server; a license server managing the communication relay server; and a backup server. The communication relay device includes: a relay information generating part that generates relay information to relay the communications; a storage part in which the relay information is stored; a communication relaying part that relays the communications based on the relay information; a backup part that sends the relay information to the backup server; an identification information transmission part that reads identification information and sends the read identification information to the license server; and a setting applying part that obtains the relay information from the backup server and stores the obtained relay information in the storage part.

An image processing system includes a portable terminal and an image processing device that wirelessly communicates with the portable terminal. The portable terminal includes a first CPU that sends a connection request to the image processing device to request to establish a connection with the image processing device and that sends an execution start command to enable the image processing device to execute a job when the connection with the image processing device is established. The image processing device includes a wireless communication interface that establishes the connection with the portable terminal in response to the connection request from the portable terminal and a second CPU that receives the execution start command from the portable terminal, executes the job based on the execution start command in order of receipt, and terminates the connection with the portable terminal after the execution start command is received.
