CONTEXT-AWARE IMAGE PROCESSING
A method and apparatus for image processing. An image scaling circuit is configured to receive image data for a plurality of pixels corresponding to a first image. The image data includes color information and a transparency value for each of the plurality of pixels. The image scaling circuit updates the image data by selectively changing the color information for one or more of the pixels based at least in part on the transparency values. In updating the image data, the image scaling circuit may determine contextual information about the first image based at least in part on the transparency values. The image scaling circuit further generates an interpolated image based on the updated image data for the plurality of pixels. For example, the interpolated image may be a scaled version of the first image.

The logic may be further configured to select, based upon the image group, a colorspace transform mechanism being operative to transform the image data into transformed image data in accordance with another colorspace model, the other colorspace model having a higher likelihood than the colorspace model at edge detection for the image group. The logic may be further configured to apply the colorspace transform mechanism to the image data to generate the transformed image data in accordance with the other colorspace mode and then, apply an edge detection technique to the transformed image data. An image forming apparatus includes a first reading unit configured to read a first image on a first surface of a document, a second reading unit configured to read a second image on a second surface of the document different from the first surface, a printing unit configured to print a third image on a sheet, and a setting unit configured to set resolution of the third image printed by the printing unit. The printing unit prints the third image on the sheet with the resolution set by the setting unit. The printing unit also prints a fourth image with resolution lower than or equal to a threshold, without using the set resolution, the fourth image used for correction of at least a color value obtained by reading the second image using the second reading unit.
