The present invention relates to a display control device, a display control method, and a program, enabling realization of various playing display using frame images subjected to compositing processing as a motion transition image. A recording medium has recorded therein, as a series of recording frame image data, each of composited image data generated by sequentially performing image compositing processing for each input of frame image data, each of composited image data being enabled of moving image display in which a moving subject image in each frame image data is sequentially placed so as to be arrayed in a predetermined direction, with each recording frame image data being playable. In accordance with operation of an operation input unit such as a touch panel, a frame position to be played is determined out of the series of recording frame image data, and playing of the recording frame image data at the determined frame position is executed. Thus, a scene which the user desires to view out of the motion transition image can be easily viewed.

An apparatus and method is disclosed for preventing a viewer from switching from a channel when an advertisement is being displayed on the channel. The apparatus and method comprises an advertisement controller in a video playback device that (1) prevents a viewer of a direct (non-recorded) broadcast from switching channels when an advertisement is displayed, and (2) prevents a viewer of a recorded program from fast forwarding the recorded program in order to skip past advertisements that were recorded with the program. A viewer may either watch the advertisements or pay a fee in order to be able to change channels or fast forward when the advertisements are being displayed.

An apparatus and method is disclosed for preventing a viewer from switching from a channel when an advertisement is being displayed on the channel. A receiving apparatus comprises a recorder of the received digital contents and commercial messages. Commercial message retrieved from the recorder is interposed into a digital content or between a pair of digital contents in accordance with the type of commercial message. Interposition of commercial message is controlled by internal information, such as history of actually displaying the same commercial message, or history of skipping the same commercial message. The receiving apparatus controls the repetition time of displaying the same commercial message, or decision whether or not actually displaying a specific commercial message, or the order of displaying commercial messages. Skip of commercial message is prevented unless display has been repeated over a minimum requirement, or user agrees with a compensation for the skip. Repetition of the same commercial message ceases with skip repeated over a limit. Notice of interposing commercial message or of compensation for skip is made in advance.

A compensating timer system and method utilizable with video data featuring sections of different playback or recording speeds. The compensating timer system can be utilized with a user interface associated with and displayable thereon. The user interface can include a video display region configured or configurable to display video data, and an animated time indicator. The animated time indicator can be dependent on a modified playing speed of the video data that changes between different first and second speed rates. The first speed rate can be changed to the second speed rate upon receipt of an input associated with an affordance, by modifying at least one frame in the video data. This allows for continuous recording and/or displaying of video at different speed rates without altering operations or settings. The animated time indicator can be an animated affordance, an animated progress bar, an elapsed timer and/or a time remaining clock.

A compensating timer system and method utilizable with video data featuring sections of different playback or recording speeds. The compensating timer system can be utilized with a user interface associated with and displayable thereon. A highlight moment within a video, music to accompany a looping presentation of the video, and a looping effect for the video may be determined. A segment of the video to be used for the looping presentation of the video may be selected based on highlight moment, the music, and the looping effect. The looping presentation of the video may be generated to have the segment edited based on a style of the looping effect and to include accompaniment of the music.

A highlight moment within a video, music to accompany a looping presentation of the video, and a looping effect for the video may be determined. A segment of the video to be used for the looping presentation of the video may be selected based on highlight moment, the music, and the looping effect. The looping presentation of the video may be generated to have the segment edited based on a style of the looping effect and to include accompaniment of the music.

Access point pictures designated as randomly accessible positions are I pictures or P pictures. Information indicating the decoding sequence (I1, P1, B1, B2, B3, B4, P2, . . . ) of pictures functioning as access points and attribute information (picture_type) indicating whether a picture functions as an access point or is necessary for decoding of the access point following a given access point are recorded on the video information recording medium. Random access is possible even if the GOP interval is lengthened.
