Video distribution server and SSD control method
According to one embodiment, a video distribution server includes an SSD and an SSD operator. The SSD includes a storage medium and a controller. The controller executes a wear leveling process on the storage medium. The SSD operator gives the controller an instruction to disable a wear leveling function. The wear leveling function provides the wear leveling process.
Efficient data transmission
A method for controlling video in a system includes receiving wirelessly at a stationary base station a low quality video from a mobile device, the mobile device configured to record both the low quality video and a high quality video of a same video stream, to store each of the low quality video and the high quality video, and to wirelessly transmit only the low quality video. The method includes analyzing the low quality video at the stationary base station and, based on the analysis, transmitting a signal to the mobile device to delete the low quality video and the high quality video from the mobile device, to allow overwrite of the low quality video and the high quality video from the mobile device, or to request transmission of the high quality video from the mobile device.
Media asset duplication
A content delivery system comprising: a receiving module for receiving a media asset in a received format; a transcoder configured to transcode the asset to provide a predetermined number of transcoded versions of the asset in at least one consumption format; a data store for storing the predetermined number of transcoded versions; a transmitting module coupled to said data store and configured to retrieve one of the predetermined number of transcoded versions from the data store and transmit the retrieved transcoded version to a media consuming device in response to detecting selection of the media asset by a content consumer associated with the device; a media asset duplication module configured, in response to detecting transmission of each transcoded version of the predetermined number of transcoded versions to respective one or more media consuming devices, to create a duplicate of the transcoded version and store the duplicate in the data store.
System and method for delivering missed portions of media assets to interested viewers
Systems and methods are described herein for efficiently “catching-up” a user that is interested in a media asset when that user has missed a portion of the media asset while consuming the media asset together with other people. The system may detect that multiple people are consuming a media asset and may determine, based on a respective profile of each person, whether that person is interested in the media asset. When the system detects that the user is disregarding the media asset, the missed portion of the media asset is stored if the user is interested in the media asset, and is not stored if the user is not interested in the media asset.
METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR COMPARING VIDEO FILES
There is disclosed a method of selecting a candidate video, the candidate video potentially being a near-duplicate of a given video, the given video having a given video duration. The method is executed at an electronic device, the electronic device having access to a video storage. The method comprises: determining a variance parameter, the variance parameter being determined based on the first video duration; receiving, from the video storage, a plurality of candidate videos; selecting a first candidate video from the plurality of candidate videos, the first candidate video having a first candidate video duration; comparing the first candidate video duration with the variance parameter; in response to the first candidate video duration being within the variance parameter, determining that the first candidate video is an actual candidate for being a near-duplicate of the given video.
CACHE EVICTION DURING OFF-PEAK TRANSACTIONS
Transaction activity of a cache maintaining content may be monitored to determine periods of transaction activity below a first threshold amount of transactions. A period of anticipated transaction activity above a second threshold amount of transactions may be determined. A period of anticipated transaction activity below the first threshold may be selected based upon the monitored periods of transaction activity below the first threshold and the determined period of anticipated transaction activity above the second threshold. Content then may be evicted from the cache during the selected period of anticipated transaction activity.
Peer-to-peer video on demand techniques
Techniques for delivering video content are provided. A video distribution service maintains associations of viewer devices that have portions of specific items of video content. As new viewer devices, which lack the specific video content, make requests for the specific items of video content from the video distribution system, the video distribution system identifies a viewer device from which a portion of the item of video content may be acquired. Viewer devices having the requested content are identified by comparing distances between the locations of the requestor device and the other viewer devices of the plurality of viewers to a distance threshold. The first portion of a first item of video content is obtained from a source viewer device and a second portion of the first item of video content is obtained from the video distribution system. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Systems and methods for re-recording content associated with re-emerged popularity
Systems and methods for re-recording content associated with popularity that re-emerged are provided. A plurality of media assets is recorded. Responsive to determining that popularity of a given one of the plurality of media assets fell below a first threshold, the given media asset is selected for deletion and the given media asset is added to a list of a plurality of media assets that have been selected for deletion. Popularity for the given media asset in the list is retrieved after selecting the given media asset for deletion. The retrieved popularity of the given media asset, which previously fell below the first threshold, is compared to a second threshold. In response to determining that the retrieved popularity of the given media asset, which previously fell below the first threshold, is now above the second threshold, an action relating to re-recording the given media asset is performed.
Video data processing apparatus
A video data processing apparatus including a file creation unit that creates a file including video packets that is received from a video source, an index creation unit that creates an index file including a sequence number and offset position information, indicating a position in the created file, of each of the video packets included in the created file, and a complementary data creation unit that creates, when there is a loss of a video packet in the created file, complementary data for complementing the loss of the video packet, based on the index file of the created file and an index file of another file including video packets received from the video source by a path different from a path of the video packets included in the created file.
Methods and apparatuses for a distributed live-on-demand (LOD) origin
A novel live on demand origin architecture in one embodiment can enable the provision, operation and management of massively scalable, highly efficient, high availability content access services that offer random access to linear feeds without playback restrictions, supporting live, near-live, catch-up, start-over and VOD access modes regardless of Origin, Network and Player limitations.
