The apparatus includes a processor to receive a first compressed content bitstream from a first server device; capture input content to utilize as overlay content for the first compressed content bitstream; determine whether one of a first mode of pass-through encoding is enabled or a second mode of look-ahead encoding is enabled; and responsive to the first mode of pass-through encoding being enabled: generate a second content bitstream representing the input content; multiplex the first compressed content bitstream with the second content bitstream to generate a third combined content bitstream; and transmit the third combined content bitstream to a streaming server device for streaming to one or more users.

A system for mass distribution of content includes a media server configured to receive content comprising a real-time broadcast of a live performance. The media server generates a content signal representative of the received content and a multicast network coupled to the media server encrypts the content signal and multiplies it to generate a multicast signal. The multicast signal, transmitted by a multicast network via the data communication network, comprises a plurality of encrypted unicast signals. One or more receivers are coupled to the multicast network via the data communication network and each receives one of the encrypted unicast signals of the multicast signal via the data communication network. Each of the one or more receivers decrypts the received unicast signal and broadcasts the decrypted unicast signal to one or more entertainment pods for consumption.

Provided with a media object and a series of responses and counter responses, a real time media combining methodology is coupled with a text and audio conversion process to generate a media stream, or downloadable media object, that contains the original media object and some or all of the associated responses. The media content is formatted into the stream so that ancillary content, like text associated with a particular video response, may also be displayed. Advertisements may be inserted into the stream between responses or overlaying some portion of the viewing area during rendering of the stream.
