11716371 · 2023-08-01 · ·

Systems and methods for automatically generating top level index files for use in adaptive bitrate streaming in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment of the method of the invention includes receiving a request from a playback device at a playback server, where the request identifies a piece of content, retrieving a list of assets associated with the identified piece of content using the playback server, filtering the list of assets using at least one predetermined criterion using the playback server, generating a top level index file describing each asset in the filtered list of assets using the playback server, and sending the top level index file to the playback device using the playback server.

Dynamic adjustment of electronic program guide displays based on viewer preferences for minimizing navigation in VOD program selection
11570521 · 2023-01-31 · ·

Items of video content offered for viewing on a video-on-demand (VOD) platform of a digital TV service provider are each assigned a respective title and hierarchical address corresponding to hierarchically-arranged categories and subcategories within which the title for the video content is to be categorized. The title is listed in a location of an electronic program guide (EPG) using the same categories and subcategories as its hierarchical address. Any TV subscriber can access the EPG and navigate through its categories and subcategories to find a title for viewing on the TV. The EPG dynamically adjust its display listings of each level of categories, subcategories, and titles in order to minimize the number of remote control keypresses needed for a viewer to navigate to a title of interest. In one basic form, the EPG display is reordered by listing more frequently visited categories or subcategories first, and other less frequently visited categories or subcategories lower on the listing or out-of-sight on another page of the display.

MULTIMEDIA CONTENT PROTECTION
20230027170 · 2023-01-26 ·

A method is disclosed for protecting a multimedia content distributed by a content service to a user device, the multimedia content being related to a live event, wherein the method comprises, during the live event: identifying a significant segment of the live event; generating a trigger signal associated with the significant segment; at the user device, on the basis of the trigger signal, generating a marking comprising information identifying the user device; and, at the user device, applying the marking to a selected portion of the multimedia content, the selected portion corresponding to the significant segment of the live event.

Method for sharing and searching playlists

A system that provides for the accessing and playing of media files having differing associated rights such as non-DRM media files, purchased and downloaded media files, subscription download files such as tethered downloads, and subscription streamed DRM files. The system also provides a method and user interface for sharing a media collection among computing devices in communication via a network. The system allows access and playback, from each computing device on a network, of all media files in a media collection, regardless of their associated rights.

Processing method for control messages and security module to carry out said method

The present invention concerns a method for processing messages intended to allow the access to conditional access content and to a security module arranged for implementing this method. The method comprises the steps of receiving by a security module comprising at least one decryption module, a plurality of messages, these messages belonging to at least two different categories; assigning a different priority level to messages from each different category, one of said priority level being defined as high and another priority level, lower that the high priority level, being defined as the standard priority level; associating a value to the messages to which the standard priority level has been assigned; assigning at least one threshold value for the value associated with messages having a standard priority level; and comparing between the threshold value for a determined message and the value associated with said message. If no value associated with said message having standard priority level exceeds the corresponding threshold value, processing the messages according to their priority level, a message to which the high priority level has been assigned being processed before a message to which a lower priority level has been assigned, and change of the value associated with the messages having a standard priority level according to said predefined rule. If the value associated with one of said messages having a standard priority level exceeds the threshold value for the corresponding message, processing one of the messages having a standard priority level before processing a message having a higher priority level, and change of the value associated with the messages having a standard priority level according to said predefined rule.

Transmitting video clips of viewers' reactions during a broadcast of a live video stream

This disclosure covers systems and methods that both transmit a live video stream from a broadcaster device to viewer devices and relay video clips of reactions (by viewers to the live video stream) to the broadcaster device during presentation of the live video stream. In certain embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods facilitate viewers capturing video clips of reactions to a live video stream using a viewer device and, in turn, transmit video clips received from the viewer device to a broadcaster device during broadcast of the live video stream. For instance, in some embodiments, the systems and methods present the video clips of a viewer's reaction to the broadcaster device during a live-video-stream broadcast. Additionally, in some embodiments, the systems and methods present video clips of other viewers' reactions to a viewer device during a live-video-stream broadcast.

METHOD FOR ACQUIRING ACCESS RIGHTS TO CONDITIONAL ACCESS CONTENT

A method of acquiring access rights to conditional access content. The method comprises receiving an access right on a first terminal through a first communication channel; storing said access right in said first terminal; sending a request for said conditional access content to a content provider, said request containing at least an identifier of an account to which said first terminal is associated, an identifier of the requested content and a piece of information concerning said access right; verifying, by said content provider, the authenticity of said access right using said piece of information concerning the access right; and when there has been a successful verification, marking said access right as used, and sending said conditional access content to at least one terminal linked to said account. The first terminal using near field communication technology (NFC) during at least one transfer of said access rights.

Information display regarding playback queue subscriptions
11698769 · 2023-07-11 · ·

Example techniques relate to playback queue subscriptions. An example implementation involves a computing system receiving, from a first computing device associated with a first user account, an instruction to enable subscription to a first playback queue associated with a first media playback system. In response to the instruction, the computing system enables second user accounts to subscribe to the first playback queue. The second user accounts are registered with respective second media playback systems in respective second household. The computing system receives, from a particular second media playback system, a request to subscribe to the first playback queue; and in response, sends one or more messages that update a control interface of the first control device to display a subscriber indication and (ii) sends one or more messages that populate a second playback queue of the particular second media playback system with audio tracks of the first playback queue.

Verifying the rendering of video content at client devices using trusted platform modules
11700433 · 2023-07-11 · ·

Systems and methods for verifying the rendering of video content on information resources are provided herein. A server can transmit a video content element having a first bit stream corresponding to a predesignated frame to a client device. The client device can identify the first bit stream as corresponding to the predesignated frame. The client device can decode the first bit stream corresponding to the predesignated frame of the video content element to generate a second bit stream. The client device can transmit, to the server, a tracking message including the second bit stream. The server can compare the second bit stream included in the tracking message from the client device with a third bit stream maintained at a database. The server can determine that the video content element is rendered at the client device responsive to the second bit stream matching the third bit stream.
