Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture to estimate local market audiences of media content
Disclosed example audience measurement apparatus determine a first audience metric based on set-top box return path tuning data obtained from set-top boxes located in a first geographic area; determine a second audience metric from a portion of audience measurement data corresponding to a second geographic area, the portion of the audience measurement data associated with monitored sites in the second geographic area having second set-top box characteristics that correspond with first set-top box characteristics of the set-top boxes located in the first geographic area; determine ratios of (i) respective first audience metrics determined for respective demographic stratifications to (ii) corresponding second audience metrics determined for the respective demographic stratifications; and combine the ratios after multiplication with third audience metrics determined, for the respective demographic stratifications, from the audience measurement data to determine an audience exposure metric that estimates exposure to media in the first geographic area.
Apparatus, systems and methods for accessing an initial portion of a media content event
Systems and methods are operable to retrieve a previously broadcast initial portion of a media content event. An exemplary embodiment stores a media content event at a first media device as the media content event is communicated over a broadcast system; receives a request at the first media device from a second media device, wherein the request identifies an initial portion of a media content event that has previously been communicated over a broadcast system; identifies the initial portion of the media content event from the stored media content event; retrieves the identified initial portion of the media content event; and communicates the initial portion of the media content event from the first media device to the second media device.
ISOLATED DIGITAL VIDEO INTERFACE RECEIVER AND METHOD FOR ISOLATING RECEIVED DIGITAL VIDEO INTERFACE SIGNALS
Digital video signals are transmitted from a transmitter to a receiver via a digital video interface including shielded twisted pair cables that are surrounded by an over-braid shield. The over-braid shield is connected to a chassis ground at a transmitting end and the receiving end. An interface conveys the received signals to receiver processing circuitry. The interface is connected to an isolated ground, isolating the receiver processing circuitry. The twisted pairs are also connected to the isolated ground, such that a return current is forced back through the twisted pair cable shields rather than the over-braid shield. This reduces electromagnetic emissions and confines transients primarily to the over-braid shield.
Entertainment content rendering application
Methods and system for generating companion content for rendering on a secondary device during presentation of content on a main device include detecting execution of a local application on the secondary device by a server application. The local application establishes a wireless connection through an application programming interface (API) with the secondary device and a device that interfaces with the main device and accesses metadata defining content being rendered on the main device. The local application transmits the metadata received from the device to the server application. Historical data is generated based on the metadata received from the secondary device. The metadata within the historical data is analyzed to identify surfing paths of one or more users over time. Companion content is generated based on the surfing paths of the one or more users and forwarded to the secondary device for rendering while the secondary device is connected to the device that interfaces with the main device.
Voice-Controlled Closed Caption Display
A method is implemented on a server system for initiating by voice display of closed captions (CC) for media content. The server system receives a voice message recorded by an electronic device, and determines that the voice message is a first CC initiation request including a user voice command to initiate closed captions and a user voice designation of a display device playing the media content for which closed captions are to be activated. The server system identifies in a device registry a cast device associated in a user domain with the electronic device and coupled to the designated display device, and sends a second CC initiation request to the cast device, thereby enabling the cast device to execute a media play application that controls the designated display device to turn on and display the closed captions of media content currently displayed on the designated display device.
Content playback method and electronic device supporting same
An electronic device according to various embodiments of the present invention comprises: a sensor module functionally connected with the electronic device; a receiving module functionally connected with the electronic device; and a processor, wherein the processor may detect that the electronic device is worn by a user, obtain content from an external electronic device in response to the detection, and execute the obtained content upon obtaining the content from the external electronic device.
DISPLAY APPARATUS AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF
A display apparatus is provided, including: a display; a signal receiver configured to receive a broadcast signal; an input comprising input circuitry including a channel changing key and configured to receive an input; and at least one processor configured to display an image of a first channel among a plurality of channels of the received broadcast signal on the display, and to switch from the first channel to another channel in response to a channel changing command input through the input while the image of the first channel is displayed, the at least one processor configured to process a user interface (UI) for guiding a second channel to be selectable to be displayed on the display if the channel changing key is input more than a predetermined number of times for a preset first time.
Dongle device with video encoding and methods for use therewith
A universal serial bus (USB) dongle device includes a USB interface for receiving a video signal in a first format and for sending a processed video signal in a second format wherein the first format differs from the second format. An encoding module generates the processed video signal based on the video signal. In a further embodiment, A video card includes a video receiver for receiving a video signal in a first format, based on a selection command. An encoding module generates a processed video signal in a second format based on the video signal, wherein the first format differs from the second format. A USB interface transfers the processed video signal to the host device, receives the selection command from the host device and receives a power signal from the host device to power the video receiver and the encoding module.
DIGITAL JUKEBOX DEVICE WITH KARAOKE AND/OR PHOTO BOOTH FEATURES, AND ASSOCIATED METHODS
Certain exemplary embodiments relate to entertainment systems and, more particularly, certain exemplary embodiments relate to jukebox systems that incorporate digital downloading jukebox features along with karaoke jukebox and/or photo booth features. A combined karaoke/photo booth/jukebox may enable more integrated performance-like experiences in an in-home or out-of-home location or venue. By leveraging vast audio media libraries, trusted rights-respecting network infrastructure, and on-site image/video capturing from integrated recorders and/or remote portable devices, a more sociable experience may be created for karaoke jukebox patrons, e.g., where custom content can be generated and shared in a safe and legally appropriate manner.
CONSUMER ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT AND DISPLAY SYSTEM
An electronic entertainment and display system that includes a primary audio/video display adapted for receiving audio/video digital information from a digital data source for display. At least one secondary audio/video display is provided for being positioned in viewing proximity to the primary audio display and adapted to receive and display supplemental audio and/or video digital information for simultaneous real time viewing with the primary display by a viewer. A control system is operatively connected to both the primary display and the at least one secondary audio/video display for controlling the operation of the system.
