Systems and methods are presented for detecting users within a range of a media device. A detection region may be defined that is within the range of the media device and smaller than the range. The detection region may be stored. It may be determined whether a user is within the detection region. The media device may be activated and settings associated with the user may be applied when a user is within the detection region. In some embodiments, settings associated with a user may be compared to provided media content when the user is within the detection region. The content may change when the settings conflict with the media content. Reminders may be provided to or directed to a plurality of users within the range of the media device.

An image display apparatus includes a display configured to display a first image corresponding to a region of a 360-degree image, and to display an indicator in a three-dimensional (3D) shape including a pointer pointing to a location of the region, a sensor configured to sense an input for moving the region, and a controller configured to control movement of the region and to display a second image corresponding to a region to which the region has been moved, and to move the pointer within the indicator based on the movement of the region. The pointer is movable in an altitudinal direction and an azimuthal direction within the indicator.

When the application control type written in the application control descriptor is 3, the receiving device acquires application control data from a server, and, for example, acquires and starts a new information service application in accordance with the segment data forming the application control data. When an external device is designated as the command destination device, the receiving device generates a command for the external device, and outputs the command to the external device. In accordance with the command from the receiving device, the external device, for example, acquires and starts the new information service application. This disclosure can be applied in a case where the receiving device is controlled from the broadcasting side.

One embodiment of the present invention is a method for playing a portion of a media work which includes steps of: (a) playing the media work; (b) receiving input from a user; (c) analyzing parameters to determine the portion of the media work to play; (d) altering at least a part of the portion; and (e) playing the portion.

A program guide, such as an electronic program guide (EPG), may be used to display information regarding upcoming scheduled transmissions of content. The display may include thumbnail images for selected groups of programs, and the images may be positioned in a pseudo-random location, and moved along a randomly generated trajectory on the display.

A method for displaying a message on a smart television and a smart television are disclosed. The method includes: in response to an instruction for displaying a message received during a video call, determining a window type of the video call displayed on a television screen interface; determining whether a first window of the video call shields a predetermined message display position during display of the first window, based on the window type; in response to the first window shields the predetermined message display position during display, determining a current message display position that is not shielded by the first window on the television screen interface; and displaying a message alert box corresponding to the instruction at the current message display position, and the message alert box is not shielded by the first window.

An exemplary method includes a media content system providing, for display in a media content search view, a media content guide pane including a portion of media content listings from a plurality of media content listings; providing a first media content search pane including a first set of options from which a first search parameter is configured to be used by the media content system to select which media content listings are presented in the media content guide pane; and providing, for concurrent display with the media content guide pane and the first media content search pane in the media content search view, a second media content search pane including a second set of options from which a second search parameter is configured to be used by the media content system to further select which media content listings are presented in the media content guide pane.

The method includes: determining a first video corresponding to the first video cover fully displayed in a current screen when stop of a slide on the screen is detected; playing the first video on the current screen for user previewing; jumping to a subpage corresponding to the first video and playing the first video on the subpage when a click operation to the first video is detected. According to this disclosure, users can know the specific content of the video during the previewing process, so as to determine whether they are interested in the video. If they are not interested, the uses may skip it directly and continue watching the next video; else, the users may click the video to further watch the full video content, so that the users can intuitively filter the watching contents, thereby improving the user experience.

A method and apparatus for video playing, an electronic device and a storage medium are provided. In the method, a web service program calls a preset interface to create a video window; the video window is displayed in a page in which the current window of a browser is located; a video playing instruction is received; and a video corresponding to the video playing instruction is played in the video window. In the present application, a video window is created through a web service program; the created video window is displayed in the page in which the current window of the browser is located, and then the video is played through the video window. In this way, the video may be played without loading a plug-in, achieving the purpose of playing a video on a page of a browser without using a plug-in.
