Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in conventional conversation systems by executing a customized supplemental function for a natural language query based on the user's profile. In some aspects, the systems and methods receive a user query for a media asset, determine a query template in the user's profile matching the user's query, and identify and execute a supplemental function corresponding to the query template in addition to responding to the user's query. The user's profile is customized on the user's usage patterns of an interactive media guidance application. By monitoring the user's usage patterns and learning from the user's actions in conjunction with the user's natural language queries on which supplemental functions to execute, the interactive media guidance application may provide a smarter and more efficient user experience.

Systems and methods are presented herein for increasing user engagement with an interface by suggesting commands or queries for the user. A plurality of content items available for consumption are identified and metadata for each of the plurality of content items is retrieved. One or more candidate voice commands are generated based on a plurality of voice command templates based on a target verb and a subset of the metadata corresponding to the plurality of the content items available for consumption. A recall score is generated for each candidate voice command based at least in part on a detection of phonetic features that match between clauses of each candidate voice command. At least the candidate voice command with the highest recall score is selected and output using a suggestion system.

Systems and methods of image searching include receiving content, receiving a request to select an image from content, selecting a plurality of items in the image, retrieving information about the selected item, and providing display data based on the retrieved information.

A display device according to an embodiment of the present invention may comprise: a display unit for displaying a content image; a microphone for receiving voice commands from a user; a network interface unit for communicating with a natural language processing server and a search server; and a control unit for transmitting the received voice commands to the natural language processing server, receiving intention analysis result information indicating the user's intention corresponding to the voice commands from the natural language processing server, and performing a function of the display device according to the received intention analysis result information.

An example display device may include a voice signal receiver, a display, at least one memory storing an application supporting a contents providing service and storing instructions, a communication circuit communicating with at least one external server supporting the contents providing service, and at least one processor. Systems and methods are described for recommending a content item. A search query for a content item is received. The availability of the content item from more than one source is determined. In response to determining that the content item is available from more than one source, the quality of each of the available content items from respective sources is determined. A recommendation factor is determined. The recommendation factor is based on at least one of the bandwidth available to a user device, the resolution capability of the user device, and the quality of experience of each of the sources from which the content item is available. A list of search results for the available content items is generated. The list is ordered based on the quality of each of the available content items from respective sources and the recommendation factor.

A display apparatus and a server which implements an interactive system are disclosed. The server includes a communicator which receives text information corresponding to a user voice collected at the display apparatus from the display apparatus, and a controller which extracts an utterance component from the text information and controls so that a query to search contents is generated using the extracted utterance component and transmitted to an external server which categorizes metadata of the content under each item and stores the same, in which the controller generates the query by adding a preset item to a criteria to search a content, when a number of criteria to categorize the content under an item corresponding to the extracted utterance component is less than a preset number.

Systems and methods for sorting favorite content sources are provided. A list of favorite content sources arranged in a first order is stored. The favorite content sources in the list are accessed according to the order of the favorite content sources in the list. At a given time, a user request to change a currently accessed content source to one of the favorite content sources in the list is received. In response to receiving the user request, an attribute of content presented on the currently accessed content source at the given time is identified. The favorite content sources in the list are rearranged into a second order based on the identified attribute. The favorite content sources in the list arc accessed according to the second order in response to receiving the user request.

A platform is provided by which a plurality of content providers can market and distribute media content to users. Information about activity of the users on the platform is obtained in relation to the item of media content or in relation to media content related to the item of media content. A request is received for an activity report comprising information related to a user demographic or a media content characteristic. Responsive to the activity report request, the activity report is provided to the content provider.
