METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR REAL-TIME TRANSCODING OF MPEG-DASH ON-DEMAND MEDIA SEGMENTS WHILE IN TRANSIT FROM CONTENT HOST TO DASH CLIENT
A system, method and computer program product for real-time post-processing system that transforms MPEG-DASH on-demand media streams, including a DASH media player device; an intercepting media server device; a MPEG-DASH content origin server device; and a proxy media client device coupled to the DASH media player device and the intercepting media server device and configured to intercept MPEG-DASH HTTP requests from the DASH media player device and forward the intercepted requests to the intercepting media server device instead of the MPEG-DASH content origin server device. The intercepting media server device is configured to act as an HTTP proxy device, and forward the intercepted requests to the MPEG-DASH content origin server, and with each corresponding MPEG-DASH media subsegment acquired perform analysis of the video media content within the subsegment and apply selective transcoding.
Apparatus and methods for selective enforcement of secondary content viewing
Methods and apparatus for selectively enforcing required insertion or viewing of secondary content, such as advertisements or promotions, in a content distribution network. In one embodiment, the network is a managed network (e.g., cable television, satellite, or the like), and the method includes identifying secondary content with a particular attribute or property (e.g., an advertisement that a user has watched before), and selectively enabling one or more “trick mode” functions relating to that secondary content. In one implementation, audio codes or watermarks are inserted into the secondary content and detected when the content is accessed or rendered; if the detected content matches a database or listing of previously played content for that user or premises, the trick mode functionality (e.g., FF or “skip”) is enabled, thereby allowing the user to bypass the content.

METHODS AND APPARATUS TO USE STATION IDENTIFICATION TO ENABLE CONFIRMATION OF EXPOSURE TO LIVE MEDIA
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed to use station identification to enable confirmation of exposure to live media. Example apparatus disclosed herein include a watermark data segmenter to determine a media identifier conveyed by a watermark, a detection time determiner to determine a time at which a media meter detected the watermark from a media presentation by a media device, a reference identifier to query a library of reference signatures for a reference signature associated with the media identifier of the watermark and associated with a reference timestamp corresponding to the time at which the media meter detected the watermark, and a viewing type determiner to determine whether the media presentation is live or time-shifted based on whether a result of the query indicates the reference signature does not exist in the library of reference signatures.

Item integrity verification
Various embodiments include processing devices and methods for integrity verification of a news item. A processor of a network element may obtain an electronic news item that is ready for publication, and may determine a fingerprint using one or more portions of the electronic news item. The processor may determine for the electronic news item a record including the determined fingerprint and a second fingerprint of a previous electronic news item. The processor may store the determined record in a publicly available digital ledger, embed the determined fingerprint in the electronic news item, and publish the electronic news item. A computing device may obtain the published news item and may use the embedded fingerprint in the record that is stored in the digital ledger to verify the integrity of the electronic news item.
RECEPTION DEVICE, TRANSMISSION DEVICE, AND DATA PROCESSING METHOD
The present technology relates to a reception device, a transmission device, and a data processing method that enable a flexible operation of a service using an application that accompanies content.
A reception device includes: a reception unit that receives content; an acquisition unit that acquires an application in accordance with acquisition source information indicating an acquisition source of the application accompanying the content, the acquisition source information being included in control information transmitted together with the content; and a control unit that instantly starts the acquired application. The present technology can be applied to a television set capable of receiving digital broadcasts, for example.

Methods and apparatus to perform an automated gain control protocol with an amplifier based on historical data corresponding to contextual data
Methods and apparatus to perform an automated gain control protocol with an amplifier based on historical data corresponding to contextual data are disclosed. Example apparatus disclosed herein are to select an automatic gain control (AGC) parameter for an AGC protocol based on historical data corresponding to contextual data, the contextual data including at least one of a time during which the AGC protocol is performed, a panelist identified by a meter, demographics of an audience identified by the meter, a location of the meter, a station identified by the meter, a media type identified by the meter, or a sound pressure level identified by the meter. The disclosed example apparatus are also to perform the AGC protocol based on the selected AGC parameter.
METHODS AND APPARATUS TO VALIDATE REFERENCE MEDIA ASSETS IN MEDIA IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed to validate reference media assets in media identification systems. Example apparatus disclosed herein are to identify respective instances of media represented by corresponding candidate media resources to be verified, and cause the respective instances of media to be presented and monitored by corresponding ones of a plurality of virtual machines. Disclosed example apparatus are also to perform a comparison of a first one of the candidate media resources to a corresponding test media resource generated by a first one of the virtual machines that played and monitored a first one of the instances of media represented by the first one of the candidate media resources. Disclosed example apparatus are further to validate the first one of the candidate media resources based on the comparison.
