An embodiment of the present application relates to the field of communication technologies, and particularly to a data offloading method and a gateway, for achieving data offloading and relieving pressure on a core network. The data offloading method according to the embodiment of the present application is applied to a long term evolution (LTE) system including a base station, a gateway, a core network, and a local server, wherein the base station establishes a link with the core network via the gateway and the base station establishes a link with the local server via the gateway. The method comprises: a gateway receives a first data packet transmitted by a base station, wherein the first data packet comprises first data; and the gateway transmits the first data to a local server upon determining that the first data packet is not a VoLTE data packet in an LTE system, thereby achieving offloading of non-VoLTE data and thus relieving the pressure on a core network.

The method includes: determining, by a network device if periodicities of allocatable sounding reference signal SRS resources in a first cell are greater than periodicities of allocatable SRS resources in a second cell, a to-be-handed-over terminal based on transmission modes of terminals having accessed the first cell, where the first cell and the second cell are cells in a multi-carrier co-coverage network, and the network device covers the first cell and the second cell; and handing over, by the network device, the to-be-handed-over terminal to the second cell, where a periodicity of an SRS resource, allocated to the to-be-handed-over terminal, in the second cell is less than a periodicity of an SRS resource, allocated to the to-be-handed-over terminal, in the first cell.

The method is applied to a terminal that establishes a communication connection with a correspondent node through a first link provided by a cellular network and a second link provided by a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), respectively. The method includes acquiring relevant information of the WLAN that is accessed by a home terminal, the relevant information of the WLAN being used to indicate a data distribution capability of the WLAN; determining an amount of data transmitted to the correspondent node by the second link based on the relevant information of the WLAN; and transmitting uplink data to the correspondent node through the second link based on the amount of the data transmitted to the correspondent node.

A determination of whether the first data rate exceeds the backhaul data rate is made and an excess data rate is determined. When the first data rate exceeds the backhaul data rate a neighboring cell site having a second backhaul networks is accessed. A determination is made of how much additional capacity the second backhaul network can handle. When the neighboring cell site can handle the excess data rate backhaul sharing using beamforming is initiated.

During operation, an access point receives a message a message from a second access point with second information specifying loading of the second access point. Then, the access point receives a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) request from an electronic device with an Internet protocol (IP) address of the access point and a media access control (MAC) address of the electronic device. Next, the access point determines, based at least in part on information specifying loading of the access point, the second information and the MAC address, an assigned IP address of a gateway for the electronic device to access a second network, where the assigned IP address is one of the IP address of the access point, or a second IP address of the second access point. Moreover, the access point provides a DHCP response to the electronic device with the assigned IP address.

Systems and methods for MME adaptive selection are described. The method includes: initializing a health checkup algorithm at an eNodeB for each MME connected to as per configuration values; starting a health check timer for each MME; continuing with an Initial Attach procedure for incoming calls based on SAE-Temporary Mobile Subscriber Id (S-TMSI), (Globally Unique MME Identifier) GUMMEI, or capacity/load balancing considerations; on every UE attach attempt, incrementing a total calls count; and on every S1 AP Error Indication/no response from an ME, incrementing a total fail calls count; determining when the health check timer for an MME expires; calculating a failed calls/total calls percentage value. Based on the value of the timer, appropriate action is taken.
