Biological fluid collection device and biological fluid collection system

A biological fluid collection device that is adapted to receive a blood sample is disclosed. The biological fluid collection device includes a housing, a puncturing element transitionable between a pre-actuated position wherein the puncturing element is retained within the housing and a puncturing position wherein at least a portion of the puncturing element extends through the housing, and a cartridge removably connectable to a portion of the housing. After collecting a blood sample, the cartridge is removable from the housing and the cartridge is able to transfer the blood sample to a point-of-care testing device. The biological fluid collection device provides a closed system that reduces the exposure of a blood sample and provides fast mixing of a blood sample with a sample stabilizer.

FLUID DIVERSION MECHANISM FOR BODILY-FLUID SAMPLING

An apparatus includes a housing, a flow control mechanism, and an actuator. At least a portion of the flow control mechanism is movably disposed within the housing. The apparatus further includes an inlet port and an outlet port, and defines a fluid reservoir. The outlet port is fluidically coupled to a second fluid reservoir and is fluidically isolated from the first fluid reservoir. The actuator is configured to move the flow control mechanism between a first configuration, in which the inlet port is placed in fluid communication with the fluid reservoir such that the fluid reservoir receives a first flow of bodily-fluid, and a second configuration, in which the inlet port is placed in fluid communication with the outlet port.

Device for Obtaining a Blood Sample

A device for obtaining a biological sample, such as a capillary blood collection device, that has the ability to lance and squeeze the finger, collect the sample, stabilize the sample, and subsequently dispense the sample in a controlled manner is disclosed. The device also simplifies and streamlines the capillary blood collection by eliminating workflow variabilities which are typically associated with low sample quality including hemolysis and micro-clots.

Methods and systems are provided for a rotating capillary chamber. In one example, a system comprises a rotating capillary chamber arranged in a body of a fluid collection device, wherein the capillary chamber may rotate between two or more positions.

BLOOD COLLECTION APPARATUS

Provided is a blood collection apparatus with which blood can be stably collected from a finger tip of any subject while ensuring safety and ease. This blood collection apparatus is provided with: a puncture site holding mechanism for holding a puncture site; a compression mechanism for performing an operation of compressing and releasing the puncture site when blood is collected from the puncture site; a container holding mechanism for holding a container for collecting blood flowing from a puncture wound at the puncture site; and a driving mechanism for varying the relative distance between the puncture site and the container by vertically moving the puncture site holding mechanism, the container holding mechanism, or the container held by the container holding mechanism when blood flowing from the puncture wound is collected.

Systems and Methods for Phlebotomy Through a Peripheral IV Catheter

An apparatus includes a catheter, an introducer having a first member and a second member, a locking mechanism coupled to a distal end of the first member and configured to couple the introducer to a peripheral intravenous line, and an actuator coupled to the catheter. The actuator is configured to move from a first configuration, in which the catheter is disposed within the introducer, toward a second configuration to move the second member to a distal position relative to the first member. A portion of a guide of the second member being distal to the first member when the second member is in the distal position. The actuator is configured to move relative to the second member to be placed in the second configuration when the second member is in its distal position such that the catheter is disposed within and extending past an end of the peripheral intravenous line.

An adapter configured to couple to a catheter assembly. The adapter may include a first proximal port, a second proximal port, and a distal port. An infusion fluid pathway may extend between the first proximal port and the distal port. A blood withdrawal fluid pathway may extend between the second proximal port and the distal port. The adapter may include a one-way septum disposed in the first proximal port and configured to open to allow fluid flow in a distal direction at a pressure differential across the one-way septum. The one-way septum is disposed within the infusion fluid pathway. The adapter may include a two-way septum disposed in the second proximal port. The two-way septum may be disposed within the blood withdrawal fluid pathway.

BLOOD PICKER

A blood picker including one or more needles, a storage device, and a fluid transmission control system is provided. The needle is adapted to be inserted into a blood vessel of a human for blood detection. The storage device is in communication with the needle and provided with a drawing tube in communication with an inner space of the storage device. The fluid transmission control system includes a fluid transmission device, a driving controller, and a power supply. The fluid transmission device is in communication with one end of the drawing tube. The power supply provides a power source for the driving controller to enable the fluid transmission device, so that after the fluid transmission device is enabled, the inner space of the storage device is controlled by the fluid transmission device to generate a pressure difference, thereby allowing the blood to be drawn and stored in the storage device.
