Regulated and interactive muscle stimulation using sensory regulated EMG triggered stimulation for forging neural pathways
Systems and methods for forging neural pathways in a user include stimulation and biofeedback devices in electronic communication with a controller. EMG regulated stimulation may be triggered by the controller or by detection of embodied sensory responses from said body inducted by the controller visually or with electrostimulation to induce stress to create a period of heightened plasticity for the user's brain and to induce muscular contractions consistent with a desired movement of a portion of the users' body. Images to create stress or of the desired movement may be provided at an electronic display. Biofeedback may be received, and where determined to be positive, continued or increased stimulation may be provided. Where the biofeedback is determined to be negative, the stimulation may be decreased or stopped. The controller may process embodied sensory input from the user to learn the patient's emotional and physical thresholds.
NERVE CUFF WITH SIDE WING NEEDLES TO MONITOR EMG AND SIDE EFFECTS
A system includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and a suture structure. The first electrode and the second electrode are both coupled to the suture structure. The system may deliver, via the first electrode, electrical stimulation signals to a nerve or nerve branch. The system may sense, via the second electrode, response signals based on delivering the electrical stimulation signals. The system may control parameters associated with delivering the electrical stimulation signals, based on sensing the response signals.
SENSORS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING RESPIRATION
The disclosure provides systems and methods for treating obstructive sleep apnea using a sensor (e.g., an inertial measurement unit (IMU) comprising an accelerometer and a gyroscope), wherein the sensor is configured to detect chest and/or abdominal movement by a subject (e.g., a human subject) during the inspiration and expiration stages of a respiratory cycle and to generate positional and/or velocity data based on the detected movement. Positional and/or velocity data generated by the sensor is used by an implanted stimulation system to determine when to deliver electrical stimulation to a nerve which innervates an upper airway muscle, such as the hypoglossal nerve, to treat sleep apnea.
Monitoring diaphragmatic response to phrenic nerve stimulation
The disclosure relates to a computer-implemented method for monitoring diaphragmatic response to phrenic nerve stimulation. The method comprises receiving in real-time a diaphragmatic CMAP signal. The method comprises computing a baseline value of a characteristic of the CMAP signal. The characteristic represents a diaphragmatic response intensity to a phrenic nerve stimulation. The method comprises determining a threshold value of the characteristic, representing a boundary of values of the characteristic indicative of upcoming diaphragmatic palsy. The determining of the threshold value includes shifting the baseline value. The method comprises receiving in real-time a ECG signal. The method comprises repeating in real-time: detecting a QRS complex in the ECG signal, monitoring the CMAP signal, computing a real-time value of the characteristic, comparing the real-time value to the threshold value, and outputting an alert when the threshold is passed. The real-time value of the characteristic is asynchronous to the QRS complex.

System and Method for Muscle Stimulation and/or Impedance Measurement to Verify Proper Tube Placement
A tubing assembly for use with an electronic catheter guidance systems is provided and includes a catheter and a stimulation electrode assembly, and an electrical connection for delivering a stimulation waveform to the stimulation electrode assembly. The catheter extends in a longitudinal direction and has a proximal end and a distal end that define a lumen therebetween. Further, the catheter is configured for placement within a patient's digestive tract. The stimulation electrode assembly is configured to deliver an electrical stimulation to tissue. A catheter guidance system and method for accurately placing a catheter in the digestive tract are also provided.
CALIBRATION OF ELECTRODE-TO-MUSCLE MAPPING FOR FUNCTIONAL ELECTRICAL STIMULATION
A functional electrical stimulation (FES) device includes electrodes arranged to apply functional electrical stimulation to a body part of the user. FES stimulation is performed by: receiving values of a set of user metrics for the user; receiving a target position of the body part represented as values for a set of body part position measurements; determining a user-specific energization pattern for producing the target position based on the received target position and the received values of the set of user metrics for the user; and energizing the electrodes of the FES device in accordance with the determined user-specific energization pattern. The determination may utilize an FES calibration database with records having fields containing: values of the set of user metrics for reference users; energization patterns; and values of the set of body part position metrics for positions assumed by the body part in response to applying the energization patterns.
