LASER APPARATUS
A laser apparatus that can generate a high-quality laser beam is provided. The laser apparatus is provided with a laser medium and an insulation layer. The laser medium has a first surface and a second surface. Incident laser light is incident on the first surface. The second surface totally reflects the incident laser light that is incident to the second surface at an incident angle equal to or larger than a critical angle. The insulation layer covers a second area of the second surface that surrounds a first area of the second surface, the first area totally reflecting the incident laser light. The laser medium is exposed in the first area.

The laser light source further includes a seed light source configured to generate a seed signal beam and/or a seed idler beam having a coherence length lesser than a coherence length of the pump laser beam, and a superpositioning device configured to superposition the seed signal beam and/or the seed idler beam with the pump laser beam for joint coupling into the nonlinear optical medium.
Q-SWITCHED LASER SYSTEM
A laser system, comprising: a laser cavity, a gain medium positioned within the laser cavity, a pump source optically coupled to the gain medium, an input minor positioned at a first end of the laser cavity, an output coupler positioned at a second end of the laser cavity, a first etalon positioned within the laser cavity, and a q-switching element positioned within the laser cavity, wherein the laser system is configured to provide a laser beam at a selected wavelength ranging of 1700 to 3000 nm with a tunable spectral range of at least 10 nm. A method for using the laser system e.g., for producing a pulsed laser beam is further disclosed.
Compact mode-locked laser module
Apparatus and methods for producing ultrashort optical pulses are described. A high-power, solid-state, passively mode-locked laser can be manufactured in a compact module that can be incorporated into a portable instrument. The mode-locked laser can produce sub-50-ps optical pulses at a repetition rates between 200 MHz and 50 MHz, rates suitable for massively parallel data-acquisition. The optical pulses can be used to generate a reference clock signal for synchronizing data-acquisition and signal-processing electronics of the portable instrument.
AMPLITUDE-MODULATED LASER
Systems and methods are described for producing an amplitude-modulated laser pulse train. The laser pulse train can be used to cause fluorescence in materials at which the pulse trains are directed. The parameters of the laser pulse train are selected to increase fluorescence relative to a constant-amplitude laser pulse train. The amplitude-modulated laser pulse trains produced using the teachings of this invention can be used to enable detection of specific molecules in applications such as gene or protein sequencing.
