The second wireless device has an internal power source and is configured to transmit one or more radio frequency signals to the first wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to receive the one or more radio frequency signals from the second wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to harvest energy from the one or more radio frequency signals. The first wireless device is enabled for operation after a predetermined amount of energy is harvested from the one or more radio frequency signals. A communication handshake occurs between the first and second wireless devices to indicate that the first wireless device is in communication with the second wireless device. The first wireless device is configured to perform at least one task from harvested energy.

Medical device, apparatus, and surgical method

An EEG headpiece includes an array of electrode pins, each electrode pin extending between a proximal end, formed by a proximal end face, and a distal end and including a conducting electrode and a thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic material is arranged at least around a periphery of the electrode pin or is pressable from a hollow space to the periphery. Each electrode pin is equipped for the transmission of energy, especially mechanical vibration energy, from the proximal end face to the thermoplastic material to liquefy at least portions of the thermoplastic material from a solid state to a flowable state, whereby the thermoplastic material is capable of flowing into structures of a tissue portion surrounding the periphery and of forming, after re-solidification of the thermoplastic material, an anchoring of the electrode pin in the tissue portion.

Disclosed arc a fixed member for an implanted analyte sensor (2) and an implanted analyte sensing system comprising the fixed member. The fixed member is used for a sensor (2) having a double-sided microelectrode. The fixed member comprises a support portion (3), an accommodating portion (1), a conductive path (400) and a through hole (5); the accommodating portion (1) is composed of a top part, a side wall (13), a bottom (12) and an inner wall (14); the through hole (5) is located on the support part (3), and an opening at one end of the through hole is formed at the bottom (12); the conductive path (400) is located on the accommodating portion (1); and the conductive path (400) comprises at least two end portions (41, 42). The fixed member relatively reduces the fabrication difficulty of the double-sided microelectrode sensor (2) and effectively lowers the cost. Furthermore, the fixed member has a simple structure and a low level of manufacturing process, making the replacement of the sensor (2) simple and convenient.

SYSTEM FOR MONITORING OR TREATING A MEDICAL CONDITION OF A PATIENT

A system for treating and/or monitoring a medical condition of a patient comprises: an implant configured to be inserted into a body space of the patient, such as the left atrial appendage. The implant comprises a frame or ring configured to engage tissue of the patient proximate the body space. Methods of treating and/or monitoring a medical condition of a patient are also provided.

Delaying pre-term birth

A device for retarding birth including an upper ring for surrounding a cervix, an anchoring component for anchoring the device, and an elastic component for attaching the upper ring to the anchoring component, wherein the elastic component pushes the upper ring and the anchoring component apart. A device for retarding birth including a sleeve for surrounding a cervix along a greater portion of a length of the cervix, a support strip on the sleeve directed along an axis of the sleeve, and a ring at least partially around the sleeve, in which when a top of the sleeve is pushed to expand radially, the support strip pivots on the ring, such that an end of the support strip near the top of the sleeve moves radially outward, and an end of the support strip near the bottom of the sleeve moves radially inward. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

PLEDGET STIMULATION AND RECORDING ELECTRODES ASSEMBLIES

Aspects of the disclosure relate to pledget stimulation/recording electrode assemblies that are particularly useful for automatic periodic stimulation. Embodiments are compatible with nerve monitoring systems to provide continuous stimulation of a nerve during surgery. Disclosed embodiments include an electrode assembly having one or more electrodes rotatably supported by and positioned within a pledget substrate. The flexible pledget substrate conforms and fixates to bioelectric tissue to secure the electrode assembly in position, wrapped around the target tissue. In some embodiments, the pledget substrate includes two bodies, each including at least one electrode, the two bodies being selectively separable so that the bodies can be repositioned with respect to one another. The electrode assembly further includes a lead wire assembly including at least one insulating jacket positioned around a wire core. Optionally, the electrode assembly includes an insulating cup interconnecting the electrode and the insulating jacket.

Cardiac stimulation system

Some embodiments of pacing systems employ wireless electrode assemblies to provide pacing therapy. The wireless electrode assemblies may wirelessly receive energy via an inductive coupling so as to provide electrical stimulation to the surrounding heart tissue. In certain embodiments, the wireless electrode assembly may include one or more biased tines that shift from a first position to a second position to secure the wireless electrode assembly into the inner wall of the heart chamber.

DIRECT CARDIAC PRESSURE MONITORING

A septal closure device includes a frame comprising one or more tissue anchor features, an occluding membrane, and a pressure sensor device attached to the occluding membrane.
