A bone marrow access apparatus includes a bone penetrating member having an internal channel having an opening at a proximal end and an opening at a distal end. A valve cap is engaged with the bone penetrating member, the valve cap defining an interior cavity in which part of the bone penetrating member is situated. The valve cap includes a valve having an opening having an open state in which the channel is not obstructed and a closed state to prevent flow of a material through the channel. The valve is repeatedly switchable between the open and closed states. The bone penetrating member has an upper surface and a seat which is below the upper surface, the seat being located at an interior of the bone penetrating member, and the seat being engageable with an installation or removal instrument.

A bone marrow aspiration device and related method includes an introducer assembly and an aspiration assembly to couple to the introducer assembly. The introducer assembly includes an introducer cannula having a proximal end and a distal end. The introducer cannula defines a lumen between the distal and proximal ends, the distal end being configured to penetrate bone of a patient. The aspiration assembly includes an aspiration cannula that is receivable in the lumen of the introducer cannula and that extends beyond the distal end of the introducer cannula. The aspiration cannula includes a port to aspirate bone marrow, the port being distal to the distal end of the introducer cannula. The aspiration device further includes a mechanism at the introducer assembly to move the introducer cannula and the aspiration cannula in tandem relative to a distal end of the mechanism when the aspiration cannula is positioned within bone.

Reusable Push-Activated Intraosseous Access Device

Push activated intraosseous (TO) access devices include replaceable and rechargeable or non-rechargeable battery packs, or spring driven devices. Intraosseous access devices often require training to ensure correct placement of the access device. The disclosed devices include an intuitive operation with a unidirectional activation and drive force application. The trigger can be both activated and deactivated automatically to prevent premature activation and prevent backwalling. The device can include various indicators to further guide a user in placing the device correctly, with little or no training. Devices can further include replaceable battery packs to ensure a full charge is available when the device is used, and to provide a multi-use device that requires less storage.

Reusable push-activated intraosseous access device

Disclosed herein are push activated intraosseous (IO) access devices, and methods thereof. Embodiments include replaceable and rechargeable or non-rechargeable battery packs, or spring driven devices. Intraosseous access devices often require training to ensure correct placement of the access device. Users must coordinate the opposing actions of pulling proximally on a trigger, while applying sufficient distal drive force to penetrate the bone. Devices disclosed herein include an intuitive operation with a unidirectional activation and drive force application. Further the trigger is both activated and deactivated automatically to prevent premature activation and prevent backwalling. The device includes various indicators to further guide a user in placing the device correctly, with little or no training. Devices further include replaceable battery packs to ensure a full charge is available when the device is used, and to provide a multi-use device that requires less storage.

Penetrator assembly for accessing bone marrow

A penetrator assembly for penetrating a bone and associated bone marrow is provided. The penetrator assembly may include a first connector having a first end and a second end; an outer penetrator extending from the second end of the first connector; the outer penetrator comprising a longitudinal passageway and a first tip; a second connector having a first end and a second end; and an inner penetrator extending from the second end of the second connector, the inner penetrator comprising a second tip. The first connector may be configured to engage the second connector, and the inner penetrator may be disposed in the longitudinal passageway of the outer penetrator when the first connector is engaged with the second connector.

PUNCTURING INSTRUMENT AND PUNCTURING DEVICE

The present invention provide a puncture instrument capable of administering (supplying) a drug solution. The puncture instrument includes a puncture tip section (2); a first tubular body (3) connected to the puncture tip section (2) at the distal end; and an outer tubular body (5) at least partially covering the first tubular body (3). The first tubular body (3) is formed to be rotatable around an axis along the longitudinal direction. The first tubular body (3) has an outer diameter smaller than an inner diameter of the outer tubular body (5). A drug solution supply path (5a) is provided on the outside of the first tubular body (3).

A bone biopsy system can include a cutting cannula that is coupled to a powered drill. The powered drill can be actuated to rotate the cutting cannula and cut through a cortical layer of a bone. The powered drill can be decoupled from the cutting cannula while the cutting cannula extends through the cortical layer of the bone. A handle may then be used to manually advance the cutting cannula to a greater depth within the bone to core a sample.

Apparatus and method to access bone marrow

An apparatus and method for penetrating bone marrow is provided. The apparatus may include a housing such as a handheld body, a penetrator assembly, a connector that releasably attaches the penetrator assembly to a drill shaft, a gear mechanism, a motor and a power supply and associated circuitry operable to power the motor. The penetrator assembly may include a removable inner trocar and an outer penetrator or needle. It may also include a grooved trocar that allows bone chips to be expelled as the apparatus is inserted into bone marrow. Various connectors are provided to attach the penetrator assembly to the drill shaft.

Bone marrow access system

A bone marrow access system includes a bone marrow access apparatus, a delivery tool that installs the apparatus in connection with a bone, instruments used while the apparatus is installed, and a removal tool to remove the apparatus. The apparatus includes a bone penetrating member having an internal channel having openings at proximal and distal ends, and a valve cap engaged with the bone penetrating member. The valve cap includes a valve having an opening having an open state in which the channel is not obstructed and a closed state preventing flow of material through the channel. The delivery tool includes a flange at one end and a drill bit extending beyond the flange. The flange fits in a seat in the bone penetrating member such that when the delivery tool is rotated while the flange is in the seat, the bone penetrating member is rotated into the bone.
