For this purpose, the mobile station receives a trigger message that triggers the reporting of channel state information for at least one of the plurality of downlink component carriers, the trigger message being received in a subframe n.sub.Trigger, and reports the triggered channel state information for the at least one of the plurality of downlink component carriers based on reference signals present on the at least one of the plurality of downlink component carriers, in a subframe n.sub.Report later than n.sub.Trigger. The received trigger message indicates that the reference signals are present in a subframe n.sub.RS on the at least one of the plurality of downlink component carriers, where n.sub.Triggern.sub.RS<n.sub.Report.

A method of transmission over multiple wireless channels in a multiple antenna system includes storing channel modulation matrices at a transmitter; receiving quantized channel state information at the transmitter from plural receivers; selecting a transmission modulation matrix using the quantized channel state information from the stored channel modulation matrices; and transmitting over the multiple channels to the plural receivers using the selected transmission modulation matrix. In another embodiment, the method includes storing, at one or more receivers, indexes of modulation matrices generated by a capacity enhancing algorithm; upon a selected one of the one or more receivers receiving a transmission from the transmitter, the selected receiver selecting a modulation matrix from the stored modulation matrices that optimizes transmission between the transmitter and the selected receiver; the selected receiver sending an index representing the selected modulation matrix; and receiving the index at the transmitter from the selected receiver.

Determining a number of RACH preamble messages for transmission

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, base stations and user equipment (UEs) may use beamforming for transmitting random access channel (RACH) messages. A UE may transmit multiple RACH preamble messages (e.g., within a random access response (RAR) window) to initiate a RACH procedure. The UE may transmit the RACH preamble messages in transmission opportunities corresponding to reference signals received from the base station. In some cases, the UE may determine the number of RACH preamble messages to transmit within the RAR window based on an ability of the UE to simultaneously monitor for a RAR message in response to each of the transmitted messages. In other cases, the UE may transmit an indication of UE capabilities to the base station. The base station may determine a RACH resource configuration for the UE based on the capabilities and may indicate the configuration to the UE.
