Indirect attachment of a needle to a mesh suture
A medical device includes a surgical needle, an elongated suture, and an intervening segment. The elongated suture has a first end proximate to the needle and a second end located away from the needle. The elongated suture also includes a plurality of fibers defining a mesh wall between the first and second ends. A plurality of pores extend through the mesh wall, at least some which are in the macroporous size range of greater than 200 microns for facilitating tissue integration when introduced into a body. The intervening segment is disposed between and connected to either or both ends of the elongated suture and the needle. The intervening segment includes one or more fibers of the plurality of fibers and has a cross-sectional dimension smaller than a cross-sectional dimension of the mesh wall such that the intervening segment facilitates indirect attachment of the elongated macroporous mesh suture to the needle.
Laparoscopic suturing devices, needles, sutures, and drive systems
Devices are provided for a suturing device used during laparoscopic surgical procedures. A suturing needle includes a shaft forming a rod axis; a curved body having a piercing tip at a first end and a base at a second end; and an arm extending radially from the shaft to the base of the curved body such that the curved body is positioned in a plane orthogonal to the rod axis of the shaft and rotatable about the shaft in the plane orthogonal to the rod axis. The suturing device includes a housing, a suturing needle, one or more sutures, a suture magazine configured to hold the one or more sutures, and a drive system, whereby the drive system may actuate the suturing needle to rotate in the plane orthogonal to the drive system, allowing the suturing needle to drive in to and out of tissue to apply a suture.
SKIN WOUND CLOSING APPARATUS
The invention provided with a skin wound closing apparatus which belongs to medical equipment. The skin wound closing apparatus provided in this invention includes: a pair of adhesive sheets, at least a pair of threading components, at least a pull string, at least a pull component and pull string locking component. The skin wound closing apparatus provided in this invention includes a pair of adhesive sheets which are stick to the skin of the two sides of the wound, at least a pair of threading components positioned on the adhesive sheet and pull string which is set to thread between the threading cubes therefore the operator can close the wound simply by pulling the pull string, so it has the advantages of convenient operation and quick use. The skin wound closing apparatus also includes the pull components, so it can indicate the specific part of the pull string that the user needs to pull when closing the wound, which is convenient to use, thereby obtaining the best wound closure effect. The skin wound closing apparatus also includes a pull string locking component, so it can lock the part of the pull string pulled out by the pull component, so that the wound can be closed firmly.
Suture passer systems and methods for tongue or other tissue suspension and compression
Suture passer systems for tissue suspension and tissue compression are described. The system can include a shaft and a needle, wherein the needle is freely rotatable with respect to the shaft. The suture may include an overmolded segment. Methods of placing one or more implants, sutures, fastener, bone anchors and other devices are also described. The methods include moving tissue, including the superior pharyngeal constrictor muscle, palatopharyngeal arch, and palatoglossal arch. The methods include hyoid bone suspension.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DIRECTING AN ELONGATE FLEXIBLE COMPONENT THROUGH A PART OF A HUMAN BODY
A method of, and apparatus for, directing an elongate flexible component with a length through a part of a human body. The method includes the steps of; obtaining an apparatus having an elongate body with a length between axially spaced leading and trailing ends and a notch through a peripheral surface of the elongate body; directing a midlength part of the elongate flexible component into the notch to place the elongate flexible component into an operative position on the apparatus; and with the elongate flexible component in the operative position, advancing the elongate body through the part of the human body and thereby causing a portion of the elongate flexible component to be drawn by a drawing surface on the elongate body through the part of the human body.
Meniscus repair
Methods for repairing a meniscus, and particularly a torn meniscus. A method of repairing a meniscus may include using a suture passer to pass a suturing element from the region between the superior surface of the meniscus and the femoral condyle, through the meniscus tissue, into the region between the inferior surface of the meniscus and the tibial plateau, across the inferior surface of the meniscus, and back to the superior surface of the meniscus, without deeply penetrating the posterior capsular region of the knee. Equivalently, the suture element may be passed from the inferior surface of the meniscus to the superior surface and back to the inferior surface.
Suture capturing device for use in arthroscopic procedures
A suture capturing device configured to attain multiple preset orientations, comprising: a handle; a hollow shaft coupled to said handle; a rigid needle element configured with a hook for catching a suture and where the needle element is operatively coupled to the hollow shaft opposite the handle and configured to be slidable in a first direction to assume an open orientation where the hook is exposed relative to the hollow shaft and in a second direction to assume a closed orientation where the hook is not exposed relative to the hollow shaft.
Systems and methods for treating a pelvic disorder
Surgical instruments for pelvic repair can include straight portions and helical portions. Surgical methods for treating prolapse and other pelvic disorders can include passing a distal end region of the surgical instruments through pelvic tissue, associating an implant with the surgical instruments, and securing the implant in place to stabilize the vagina.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PASSING SUTURE THROUGH TISSUE
A method for passing a suture includes extending a distal end of a suture manipulator of a suture passer from a distal portion of a hollow tube of the suture passer, locating a portion of a suture adjacent to a catching portion of the suture manipulator, retracting the distal end of the suture manipulator into the hollow tube and pulling the portion of the suture into the hollow tube so that a loop of the suture is located in the lumen and the portion of the suture is compressed by an inner surface of the hollow tube and a side surface of the catching portion, and sliding the suture manipulator distally relative to the hollow tube and pushing the portion of the suture with a pushing portion of the suture manipulator that is located proximally of the catching portion to expel the suture from the hollow tube.
THREAD INSERTION DEVICES
Devices and methods for inserting an implant into skin or other tissue of a patient can include a hyaluronic thread that is coupled at a distal portion with an insertion device. The insertion device can include a cover member and a piston that can collectively facilitate engagement with or disengagement of the distal portion of the thread with the device. For example, the piston can be positioned within an inner cavity of the cover member, and the distal portion of the thread can be engaged by and/or between the piston and the cover member. The thread can be released by movement of the piston relative to the cover member. Thus, some insertion devices can grasp or engage the distal portion of the thread and push the distal portion of the thread into and through into skin or other tissue of a patient.
