An image forming apparatus includes a display, a communication unit, and a controller. Information is displayed on the display. The communication unit performs communication with a first display apparatus, which is an external apparatus. The controller performs control, if an error occurs during an image forming process, in such a manner that different error information is displayed on the display and on the first display apparatus on the basis of a communication status with the first display apparatus and statuses of operations performed by a user of the first display apparatus and a user of the image forming apparatus.

Disclosed herein are a method and apparatus for performing print jobs in a printing system including a host device and a printing device. The method of performing print jobs in a printing system including a host device and a printing device includes: requesting printing while transmitting print data and identifications (IDs) corresponding to one or more print jobs, included in a job list, to the printing device; if an identification (ID) corresponding to at least one completed print job is received from the printing device, updating the job list by deleting a print job corresponding to the received ID from the job list; if an error has occurred in the printing system, determining whether the error has been resolved; and if it is determined that the error has been resolved, resuming printing.

An image forming apparatus, to which terminals are connected, comprises an image forming unit, a detector that detects an error, and a controller that, when the error is detected, specifies a portable terminal through which an operation to eliminate the error is requested, transmits a request to the specified terminal, and transmits a notification that notifies of an occurrence of the error to each terminal other than the specified terminal. An information processing apparatus includes a user interface, a communication interface, and a controller configured to, in response to receiving via the user interface an instruction to transmit an error notification, refer to one or more error records registered in error history data stored in a memory, each error record representing an error caused in the information processing apparatus, determine whether the one or more error records referred to include at least one error record associated with a previously selected error type, and in response to determining that the one or more error records referred to include the at least one error record associated with the previously selected error type, transmit the error notification to an external device via the communication interface.

An image forming apparatus includes a communication device and a notification transmitting unit. The communication device is capable of data communication with a server. The notification transmitting unit transmits a notification to the server using the communication device when a transmission request for the notification is generated. The notification transmitting unit: (a) determines whether or not to transmit the notification under the transmission request based on an elapsed time from a previous transmission of the notification when the transmission request is generated; (b1) immediately transmits the notification under the transmission request using the communication device if it is determined that the notification under the transmission request is to be transmitted; and (b2) does not transmit the notification under the transmission request if it is determined that the notification under the transmission request is not to be transmitted.

A data processing apparatus is configured to perform a specific processing operation in accordance with data transmitted from an external device. The data processing apparatus includes a communication interface, an operation receiving portion, and processing circuitry. The communication interface is configured to receive the data from the external device via a communication line. An information processing apparatus including a storage device obtains an energized time to the storage device in a standby state where no job is being executed and a number of accesses to the storage device during the standby state. The information processing apparatus provides a display relating to a lifetime of the storage device based on the energized time and the number of accesses to the storage device.
