A media system includes a plurality of set-top boxes coupled to a coax network and a controller. The controller displays a first passkey to a user in response to receiving a request from the user to activate playback of a media content on a particular set-top box. The set-top box receives the first passkey from the user and determines whether the user is authorized to activate playback of the media content by comparing the first passkey received from the user with a second passkey obtained from a passkey module on the set-top box. When the user is determined by the set-top box to be authorized to activate playback of the media content, the set-top box determines a radio frequency channel of the coax network according to the first passkey received from the user and begins playback of the media content received on the radio frequency channel on a display device.

The invention relates to a system and method for improved, selective download of broadcast data. In particular the present invention relates to downloading of broadcast data effectively when disturbances occur during reception of an input signal comprising a data carousel. The invention introduces multiplication of content filters that are configured to download only a part of the data. An important feature is recognition when to reset content filters in order to resolve an issue. For the purposes of this invention, there is defined a linear address space. The important properties of this address space allow for consistent addressing without gaps and every address is greater by a single position with respect to the previous one. The address space starts with one address and ends with another one. Such chunk address space may be considered as predictable, because a synchronization can be caught by reading an address of currently broadcast section.

The present invention provides a digital broadcast receiver capable of executing functions having higher added values. The broadcast receiver receives a broadcast wave of a digital broadcast service, controls an operation including activation and end of an application that is in cooperation with a broadcast program based on application-related information, and selects control relating to reactivation of the application based on a user's operation. If activation of the application is requested after the end of the application, the broadcast receiver controls the reactivation or non-reactivation of the application in accordance with the selection of control by the user.

The present invention provides a digital broadcast receiver capable of executing functions having higher added values. The broadcast receiver receives a broadcast wave of a digital broadcast service, controls an operation including activation and end of an application that is in cooperation with a broadcast program based on application-related information, and selects control relating to reactivation of the application based on a user's operation. If activation of the application is requested after the end of the application, the broadcast receiver controls the reactivation or non-reactivation of the application in accordance with the selection of control by the user.

Provided is a content caching broadcast transmission system that receives content from a content server, converts the content, and transmits the content through a non-real-time broadcast protocol. A receiver receives broadcast content through the non-real-time broadcast protocol, converts the broadcast content into web content, stores the web content, and forwards the web content to a client terminal in a unicast manner. The web content may be an Internet application package including a plurality of web documents and a series of scripts necessary for playback. A web object included in the Internet application package may be parsed, and addresses of links included in the web object may be converted such that the addresses are accessible in a receiver and then may be transmitted.

A media system includes a plurality of set-top boxes coupled to a coax network and a controller. The controller displays a first passkey to a user in response to receiving a request from the user to activate playback of a media content on a particular set-top box. The set-top box receives the first passkey from the user and determines whether the user is authorized to activate playback of the media content by comparing the first passkey received from the user with a second passkey obtained from a passkey module on the set-top box. When the user is determined by the set-top box to be authorized to activate playback of the media content, the set-top box determines a radio frequency channel of the coax network according to the first passkey received from the user and begins playback of the media content received on the radio frequency channel on a display device.

A method is directed to recovering a target file by an audio/video receiving equipment, the audio/video receiving equipment including at least two communication interfaces, including a first communication interface able to receive broadcast data and a second communication interface able to establish a bidirectional dialog with a server. The method makes possible to make data available simultaneously: in the “normal” direction, from the beginning to the end, on an IP interface via a file server (HTTP/FTP/etc.); in the “reverse” direction, from the end to the beginning, on a broadcast interface via a DSM-CC carousel, referred to as a dedicated channel. Thus the audio/video reception equipment can efficiently recover the data by simultaneously using two communication interfaces including at least one unidirectional interface.

It becomes possible to satisfactorily perform subtitle display in the reception side. A container of a predetermined format is transmitted, the container including a video stream including video data and a subtitle stream including text information of a subtitle, the text information including subtitle display position information for specifying a subtitle display position as a relative position with respect to a subtitle display range. Auxiliary information is inserted, into a container of the subtitle stream, to be used when the subtitles is displayed by using subtitle position information. For example, the auxiliary information is information regarding resizing processing, information for determining a subtitle display range, and the like.

A broadcast signal reception apparatus according to embodiments of the present invention comprises: a tuner for receiving a broadcast signal, wherein the broadcast signal includes a first content received through a first network and a second content received through a second network, the first content and the second content are allocated to a first channel, and the first content has a resolution different from that of the second content; a signaling parser for parsing signaling information included in the broadcast signal, wherein the signaling information includes linkage information between the first content and the second content; a controller for controlling the first content and the second content on the basis of the signaling information; and a decoder for decoding at least one of the first content or the second content.

There is provided an arrangement for executing an application on the condition that the application has been confirmed as authorized. A transmitting apparatus sends an application and signaling data in which authentication information capable of confirming the application as authorized is recorded. A receiving apparatus receives these data, performs an authentication process based on the authentication information to confirm the application as authorized, and executes the application that has been confirmed as authorized. The application is an application used in a process of selecting advertisement contents depending on user information. It is possible to provide the user reliably with a proper advertisement according to the user information.
