AUTOMATICALLY DETERMINING RESTORED AVAILABILITY OF MULTI-CHANNEL MEDIA DISTRIBUTORS FOR AUTHENTICATION OR AUTHORIZATION
Methods and systems are provided for automatically identifying restored availability of multi-channel media distributors for authentication or authorization. For example, during a period of reduced availability for a multi-channel media distributor, the entitlement service diverts some or all requests from reaching the multi-channel media distributor. These requests are for programmers associated with the multi-channel media distributor to provide media content to user devices. The entitlement service subsequently transmits test requests to the multi-channel media distributor. The entitlement service determines that the multi-channel media distributor has authenticated user credentials included in the test requests or has authorized content access based on the test requests. Based on this determination, which indicates that the availability of the multi-channel media distributor has been restored, the entitlement service transmits subsequent authentication or authorizations requests to the multi-channel media distributor.

A system for automatically selecting television channels based on wager information can include a set-top box, wager databases having user wager information, broadcast databases having broadcast schedule information, and a controller. The wager information can include an event identifier and a corresponding wager amount. The broadcast schedule can include a channel, a start time, and an end time for each event. The controller can include processors and memory devices having instructions that cause the processors to obtain wager information for the user from the wager databases, match each event identifier and corresponding wager amount to the broadcast schedule, determine a set of live events by comparing a current time with the start time and end time for each event, prioritize the live events based on wager amount, and send an instruction to the set-top box to display the channel corresponding to each live event in order of priority.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method, system and computer program product for exciting moment notification for a live event. An exciting moment notification method includes first defining in a table in memory of a computer, an exciting moment occurring during a live event, such as a card game, awards program or a sporting event, and then annotating a multiplicity of images of different instances of the live event with the exciting moment. The method further includes video streaming a live instance of the live event over a computer communications network and matching a frame of the video streamed live instance in the memory of the computer to an annotated one of the multiplicity of images. Finally, the method includes transmitting a message to at least one subscriber of the instance of the live event indicating an occurrence of the exciting moment.

In one embodiment, the network comprises a broadcast switched cable television network, which utilizes a Network optimization controller (NOC) that processes subscriber program viewing requests to identify options available to fulfill the request (including, e.g., the creation of one or more “microcasts” specifically targeting one or more users), and evaluate these options to determine one that optimizes network operation. The NOC performs these decisions by considering various parameters including network resource availability, type of CPE, subscriber's targeted advertisement profile, and business rules programmed by operator of the network.
