Linear media selection
In a substitutional media system, one of a set of media items is selected at a programme receiver for output within a predefined programming slot, based on profile data available at the receiver. Sets of the media items are scheduled to slots according to one or more constraints pertaining to that slot and/or to media items scheduled to other slots. The receiver may select a media item for output in a slot by resolving constraints with media items scheduled to other slots, or selected for output in other slots.
Managed degradation of a video stream
A system and a method for simultaneous transmission of multiple media streams in a fixed bandwidth network are disclosed herein. The system is comprised of a central gateway media server and a plurality of client receiver units. The input media streams arrive from an external source and are then transmitted to the client receiver units in a compressed format. A state machine on the gateway media server detects if the network bandwidth is close to saturation. In one embodiment, the potential bandwidth saturation is measured by matching the time when the start of unit of media for each stream against the estimated transmission time for that unit. When any one actual transmission time exceeds its estimated transmission time by a predetermined threshold value, the network is deemed to be close to saturation, or already saturated, and the state machine executes a process of selecting at least one stream as a target for lowering total bandwidth usage. Once the target stream associated with a client receiver unit is chosen, the amount of data transmitted by the target stream is reduced, which could result in a lower data transmission rate. In one embodiment, the amount of data is reduced by a gradual degradation of the precision of the data, resulting in a greater potential for data compression, and/or by gradually reducing the resolution of the data of the target stream.
Methods and apparatus for providing alternate media for video decoders
A system provides programming and advertising to a video decoder such as a digital video recorder, computer system, software or hardware player, etc. When a user makes a request to skip a commercial by issuing a command such as 30 second skip forward, alternate media is provided. In some examples, an image advertisement is provided for a predetermined period of time either during the commercial break or when regular programming resumes. In other examples, a substitute commercial is shown. The substitute commercial may be shortened or compressed. The alternate media may be perceptually encoded in a video stream, hidden in a video stream, or provided in a separate stream. In some examples, survey based and neuro-response based data is used to evaluate and select alternate media for particular programming.
Video transmission method and video transmission apparatus
A video transmission method for transmitting, to a video playback device, a video data file group that corresponds to a selected scene from among a plurality of scenes included in video data, the video transmission method includes causing a processor to execute a process including making a length of time corresponding to each data file in a predetermined number of data files shorter than a length of time corresponding to a data file to be transmitted next after the transmission of the predetermined number of video data files, in which the predetermined number of video data files include a video data file to be first transmitted and are sequentially transmitted when sequentially transmitting video data files to the video playback device.
Systems and methods for mixing models to optimize media placement
Methods and systems are disclosed for using multiple reach optimization models together. These models may be used by an optimization system that helps an advertisement campaign manager decide how advertisements should be allocated between different media assets. In some embodiments, the models may be run simultaneously while their results and compared, and execution of some models may be ended based on the comparisons. In some embodiments, models may be combined together to create new models. In some embodiments, results from a first model may used as input in a second model running concurrently. In some embodiments, results from a previous execution of a model may be used to warm-start a subsequent execution of the model.
DELIVERING MEDIA CONTENT TO A CONTENT CONSUMING USER
In the following, a content delivery system delivers a modified version of a media asset to a current content consuming user. Control information identifying a desired attribute of the modified version of the asset is received from the current content consuming user. The media asset is modified based on the control information and audience reaction data associated with the media asset and generated by analyzing at least a previous content consuming user's reactions to the media asset whilst the media asset was supplied to a media output device of the previous content consuming user.
Video delivery expedition apparatuses, methods and systems
The VIDEO DELIVERY EXPEDITION APPARATUSES, METHODS AND SYSTEMS (“VDE”) transform Internet content data access request via VDE components into media content playback at a client device. In one implementation, the VDE may issue a notification or a user interface element to a user after delivery of a process one data from the server to a client; and trigger a background delivery of a process two data, wherein the triggering occurs when the user initiates playback of said process one data.
System for Dynamic Multimedia Analysis, Matching and Decision-Making
A system and method to dynamically analyze digital media and select multimedia assets or items to render with correlated IP-connected media and apps. Hierarchical Taxonomy, Engagement-based and Neural-based asset matching is rendered with rule-based and Diminishing Perspective decision-making. A user can listen, view and interact with the correlated and rendered material using an input device native to the computing device being used to access the IP-connected media. Embodiments extract features from the digital media. The extracted features are semantically analyzed for an understanding of characteristics associated with the respective features. Topics are extracted from the digital media based on the characteristics. Stored assets are correlated to the extracted topics to select an asset based on characteristics of the extracted topics correlating with the selected asset. The selected asset is rendered with the digital media.
Systems and methods for viewer decision-based targeted commercials
Various arrangements for targeting advertising to a television viewer are presented. A user interface may be output for presentation that permits the television viewer to select from among a plurality of advertising options. One or more selections may be received from the television viewer from among the plurality of advertising options. A television program may be output for presentation to the television viewer. One or more commercials may be selected that match the one or more selections from among the plurality of advertising options. The one or more commercials that match the one or more selections from among the plurality of advertising options may be output for presentation during a first commercial break in the television program.
