Methods and apparatus for transcoding metadata

Methods and apparatus for transcoding metadata are disclosed. Example apparatus disclosed herein include means for accessing first metadata accompanying media to be presented by a media device, the first metadata in a first format not detectable by a meter collecting audience measurement data associated with the media device. The example apparatus also include means for transcoding the first metadata into second metadata having a second format different from the first format, the second metadata detectable by the meter and supported by an application programming interface (API) provided by the media device and accessible by the meter. The example apparatus further include means for communicating the second metadata in a second transmission for receipt by the meter via the API provided by the media device, the second transmission being separate from a first transmission communicating the media and the first metadata, but not communicating the second metadata, to the media device.

A method for providing video and audio perspectives of audio/video content is presented. In an example embodiment, a media content item is received that includes audio/video content having at least one video perspective and a plurality of audio perspectives for the at least one video perspective. The at least one video perspective is provided with a first one of the plurality of audio perspectives for presentation on a display device. During the providing of the at least one video perspective with the first one of the plurality of audio perspectives, a first command is received from a media application configured to allow a user to select among the plurality of audio perspectives. Responsive to the first command, the video perspective is provided along with a selected second one of the plurality of audio perspectives in substitution of the first one of the plurality of audio perspectives for presentation on the display device.

Techniques for upgrading software in a video content network

It is determined that a substantial portion of set-top terminals connected to a video content network require a software upgrade. In-band video bandwidth (e.g., video-on-demand or switched digital video) is allocated for the software upgrade. The software upgrade is broadcast to the set-top terminals from a carousel in a first remote node of the video content network, via the allocated in-band video bandwidth, until a predetermined number of the set-top terminals have received the software upgrade. Subsequent to the predetermined number of set-top terminals receiving the software upgrade, the in-band video bandwidth is de-allocated and the software upgrade is made available out-of-band to the remaining portion of the set-top terminals, via individual sessions with an application server in a second remote node of the video content network. An exemplary system, which can implement the method, includes a controller, a dynamic bandwidth allocation device, the carousel, and the application server.

RECEIVING DEVICE, RECEIVING METHOD, AND PROGRAM

Disclosed herein is a receiving device for receiving an AV content broadcast by a broadcasting wave, including: an obtaining section adapted to obtain a description document described in a predetermined computer language for displaying another content different from the AV content; a determining section adapted to determine whether the obtained description document is managed by a broadcaster which broadcasts the AV content or is managed by a different operator other than the broadcaster; and a controlling section adapted to control execution of the obtained description document in response to a result of the determination by the determining section.
