CENTER PIPE FOR PLASMA TORCH, CONTACT PIECE ELECTRODE, AND PLASMA TORCH

A center pipe is used in a plasma torch for plasma cutting including a base portion and an electrode. The center pipe is inserted into the electrode and supplies cooling water into the electrode. The center pipe includes a pipe body and a contact piece. The pipe body is electrically connected to an electrical power source outside of the plasma torch via the base portion. The pipe body includes a cooling water channel therein. The pipe body is formed with an electrically conductive body. The contact piece is provided on the external circumferential surface of the pipe body and energizes the electrode through contact with the internal circumferential surface of the electrode. The contact piece has elasticity to produce a counterforce when pressed in the radial direction of the pipe body. The contact piece is formed with an electrically conductive body.

A non-transferred plasma arc system, which is provided with a non-transferred plasma torch (1) that is provided with a non-consumable electrode (101) as a negative electrode and an insert chip as a positive electrode, the insert chip being cooled by a circulated coolant (W) and the insert chip releasing a plasma arc onto a workpiece. The plasma arc torch (1) comprises a TIG welding torch (100) that is provided with the non-consumable electrode (101), whereby an arc is generated between the workpiece and said electrode (101), and a torch nozzle (105), which releases a shield gas toward an arc-generated weld pool of the workpiece. The plasma arc torch (1) is provided with an attachment (51) that is detachably attached to the TIG welding torch (100) while surrounding the periphery of the torch nozzle (105) and that functions as the insert chip, whereby a non-transferred plasma arc is inexpensively and easily used.

Plasma arc torch and method for assembling and disassembling a plasma arc torch

A front end assembly for a plasma torch and methods for assembling and disassembling a torch wherein a plurality of front end parts form a unit that is removable from, and installable in, the torch in a single operation without a special fixture. The front end assembly includes a nozzle retaining cup body connectable to a body of the torch, and a forward end connectable to a shield retainer. A nozzle retaining cup insert fits into the nozzle retaining cup body. The shield retainer has an inner surface for retaining the shield. A nozzle is received within the nozzle retaining cup insert. A stop on the nozzle engages the nozzle retaining cup insert when the front end assembly is removed from the torch so the nozzle does not remain in the torch. The shield engages an insulator, which engages the nozzle, to limit forward axial movement of the nozzle.

AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION OF COMPONENTS FOR WELDING AND CUTTING TORCHES

Automatically recognizing interchangeable torch components, such as consumables, for welding and cutting torches includes adding one or more passive markings to a surface of an interchangeable torch component. Then, the interchangeable component can be recognized by a torch assembly including a torch body and one or more imaging devices or by a system including the torch assembly and a power supply. The torch body has an operative end configured to removably receive the interchangeable torch component. The one or more imaging devices are positioned to optically acquire an image of or image data representative of the one or more passive markings included on the interchangeable torch components so that a processor can determine if the one or more interchangeable components are genuine.
