Connection system suited to connect a plasma cutting torch to a generator
A connection system connects a plasma torch to a generator to allow the passage of electric current, the passage of an operating fluid, and of one or more control signals between the generator and the torch. The system includes a first connector and a second connector that are removably connected to each other. The first connector includes a first current-carrying terminal and the second connector having a second current-carrying terminal. The current-carrying terminals are suited to be mutually connected to each other. The first connector includes one or more electric terminals. The second connector includes one or more electric terminals, the connectors being suited to be mutually connected to each other. In the first connector, the electric terminals are movable with respect to the first terminal.
Swirl ring and contact element for a plasma arc torch cartridge
A swirl ring for a plasma arc torch includes a body configured to at least partially surround and slidingly engage an electrode of the plasma arc torch. The body includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first and second ends defining a longitudinal axis, and at least one protuberance extending from the second end in a direction of the longitudinal axis. The at least one protuberance is configured to engage a switch of the plasma arc torch for sensing a presence of a swirl ring in the plasma arc torch.
Impending thermal shutdown alert system and thermal shutdown process
A welding-type system with a programmed controller and alert devices for alerting a user as to the impending thermal shutdown of the welding-type system.
AUTOMATIC IDENTIFICATION OF COMPONENTS FOR WELDING AND CUTTING SYSTEMS
Identifying interchangeable components, such as consumables and torch tips, for welding and cutting torches includes adding a luminescent material to a surface of a component. The luminescent material is configured to emit electromagnetic energy with a second spectral signature in response to absorbing electromagnetic energy with a first spectral signature. Electromagnetic energy with various spectral signatures is transmitted to the surface and the component is automatically identified when the surface emits the electromagnetic energy with the first spectral signature. A power supply may automatically adjust operational parameters of the torch including the component in response to the automatic identifying.
Controlling and delivering gases in a plasma arc torch and related systems and methods
In some aspects, torch receptacles for coupling a plasma arc torch to a torch lead can include: a body having a first end to connect to the torch lead and a second end to connect to a torch body; a set of ports within the first end to fluidly connect to a set of fluid conduits within the torch lead; and a multiway valve within the body and fluidly connected to the set of ports and to a torch gas conduit formed in the second end, the multiway valve being configured to: i) manipulate a flow of fluids between the first end and the second end to select from primary gases entering the set of ports, ii) deliver a selected primary gas to the torch body through the torch gas conduit, and iii) fluidly connect the torch gas conduit to a gas supply manifold of the plasma cutting system.
Cartridge for a liquid-cooled plasma arc torch
A consumable cartridge frame for a liquid-cooled plasma arc torch is provided. The consumable cartridge frame includes an insulator body configured to be disposed between a torch head and a cartridge tip. The consumable cartridge also includes a first cooling channel, disposed in the body, configured to conduct a first fluid flow received from the torch head to contact a component of the cartridge tip connected to the cartridge frame. The consumable cartridge further includes a first return channel, disposed in the body, configured to conduct at least a portion of the first fluid flow from the component to the torch head. The first cooling channel and the first return channel are non-concentric in relation to a central longitudinal axis of the body.
PLASMA PROCESSING SYSTEM WITH CONSUMABLE IDENTIFICATION
A plasma processing system includes a torch having a consumable. A gas pressure regulator includes an input pressure sensor configured to sense an input pressure to the gas pressure regulator. A gas conduit supplies gas from the gas pressure regulator to the torch. A controller is operatively connected to the gas pressure regulator to receive an input pressure signal from the input pressure sensor and to provide a control signal to the gas pressure regulator to control operations of the gas pressure regulator and set an output pressure of the gas pressure regulator. The controller is configured to identify the consumable based on both of the input pressure to the gas pressure regulator and the control signal provided to the gas pressure regulator.
System and Method for Slag and Fume Management for Thermal Processes
A system to prevent a flow of gas and particulates from spreading to atmosphere during a material processing operation includes a slag deflector disposed proximate a torch during the material processing operation. The slag deflector includes a thermally-conductive base portion having an impact surface facing the torch. The impact surface is shaped to prevent the flow of gas and particulates from the material processing operation from spreading in a direction away from the torch, and to redirect the first flow of particulates to a surface configured to inhibit the first flow of particulates from flowing to atmosphere. The slag deflector includes a coolant flow channel configured to thermally-regulate the impact surface of the thermally conductive base portion.
