Haptic guidance system and method
A method for joint replacement is provided. A representation of a first bone is created, and a representation of a second bone is created. Bone preparation for implanting a first implant on the first bone is planned. The first bone to receive the first implant is prepared by manipulating a surgical tool to sculpt the first bone. Bone preparation for implanting a second implant on the second bone after preparing the first bone is planned. The second bone to receive the second implant is prepared by manipulating the surgical tool to sculpt the second bone.
Patient Selectable Joint Arthroplasty Devices and Surgical Tools
Disclosed herein are methods, compositions and tools for repairing articular surfaces repair materials and for repairing an articular surface. The articular surface repairs are customizable or highly selectable by patient and geared toward providing optimal fit and function. The surgical tools are designed to be customizable or highly selectable by patient to increase the speed, accuracy and simplicity of performing total or partial arthroplasty.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR EFFECTING OSTEOCHONDRAL RESTORATION
There is disclosed apparatus for effecting osteochondral restoration. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a tube having a distal end, a proximal end and a lumen extending therebetween. A drill shaft is rotatably disposed in the lumen of the tube, the drill shaft comprising a distal end and a proximal end. At least one cutting blade is disposed at the distal end of the drill shaft. A coring housing extends from the distal end of the tube and disposed around the at least one cutting blade, the coring housing terminating in a distal cutting surface. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
Guide Sleeve For Suprapatellar Surgery
A tissue protection sleeve for use in suprapatellar surgery is provided. The sleeve has a first end, a second end, an inner surface and an outer surface. The sleeve further comprises at least two open grooves that extend along the inner surface from the first end to the second end. The grooves are adapted to accommodate elongated fixation elements inserted into a tibia. A drill guide sleeve and a trocar for inserting a guide wire are also provided and can be accommodated by the tissue protection sleeve.
Orthopaedic reamer connector
An orthopedic reamer connector includes a holder section shaped to allow for connection of an orthopedic reamer, the holder section including a connection surface and two pairs of holders associated with the connection surface, each of the two pairs of holders having a first holder and a second holder that forms an acute angle relative to the first holder, the first holders being opposed to each other by about 180 degrees and the second holders being opposed to each other by about 180 degrees; and a stop section mechanically interlocked with the holder section so as to prevent relative rotation therebetween and including a pair of stops associated with each of the two pairs of holders, each of the pair of stops having a first stop associated with the first holder and a second stop associated with the second holder.
ASSEMBLY FOR USE IN KNEE SURGERY
An assembly for use in knee surgery includes a patella sensor component having a backing plate which can be fitted to the patella and which has at least one sensor which can generate a signal corresponding to the compressive load applied to the backing plate, and at least first and second shims which provide a patella bearing surface for articulation against a surface on the patient's femur, and which can be positioned individually or in one or more combinations between the backing plate and the patient's patella to define first and second positions of the bearing surface relative to the patella. The assembly includes a clamp for a patella having opposing jaws which can be moved towards one another to clamp the patella between them, the clamp providing a reference surface for engaging the posterior surface of the patella and a support surface for supporting the cutting head of a cutting instrument, thereby locating the cutting instrument relative to the clamp. First and second locator inserts can be mounted individually or in one or more combinations on or relative to the clamp, providing a physical connection between the reference and support surfaces which define first and second positions of the support surface relative to the reference surface, and thereby define first and second positions for the resection plane relative to posterior surface of the patella. The increment between the first and second positions of the bearing surface on the bearing plate relative to the patella matches the increment between the first and second positions of the support surface relative to the reference surface.
CUTTING ASSEMBLY FOR RESECTING A PATELLA
A cutting assembly for resecting a patient's patella during knee surgery comprises a cutting instrument having a cutting head for cutting the patella on a selected resection plane, and a patella clamp having opposing jaws which can be moved towards one another to clamp the patella between them. The clamp provides a reference surface for engaging the posterior surface of the patella, and a support surface for supporting the cutting head of the cutting instrument, thereby locating the cutting instrument relative to the clamp. The assembly includes a plurality of connector inserts which can be mounted individually or in one or more combinations on or relative to the clamp, providing a physical connection between the reference and support surfaces which defines the inclination of the support surface relative to the reference surface so that the inclination of the support surface relative to the reference surface can be varied by changing one or more of the connector inserts.
PATELLAR IMPLANTS AND TRIALS
Methods and apparatuses including a patellar implant are disclosed. The patellar implant can include a member, an articulation component and a connection mechanism. The member can be configured to engage a osteotimized surface of a patella. The articulation component can have an articulation surface that can be configured to articulate with a femoral prosthesis along a patellar groove. The connection mechanism can connect the articulation component with the member and can be configured to allow for at least one of removal and translational movement of the articulation component relative to the member and patella.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PREPARING PROSTHETIC HIP IMPLANTATION
A system is provided for preparing prosthetic hip implantation. The system includes a first broach, a second broach, and a trial neck having a body portion and a neck portion. A proximal end of the first broach comprises a first base having a first maximum area. The body portion can be releasably coupled to the proximal end of the first broach so as to define a first offset between a medial end of the neck portion and a longitudinal axis of the first broach, or releasably coupled to the proximal end of the second broach so as to define a second offset between the medial end of the neck portion and a longitudinal axis of the second broach. The first offset is smaller than the second offset.
