Flexible drill bit and angled drill guide for use with the same

A flexible drill bit comprising: a proximal shaft portion for connecting to a source of turning; a distal cutting tip portion for boring into a material; and an intermediate shaft portion extending between the proximal shaft portion and the distal cutting tip portion, the intermediate shaft portion being characterized by (i) sufficient longitudinal flexibility so as to permit the flexible drill bit to be passed along a curve, and (ii) sufficient torsional strength to permit the flexible drill bit to bore into the material. Apparatus for drilling a hole in material, the apparatus comprising: an angled drill guide comprising a curved distal section, a less-curved proximal section, and a lumen extending therebetween, wherein the less-curved proximal section comprises a flat extending therealong for reducing the effective diameter of the less-curved proximal section so as to minimize interference between the angled drill guide and the side wall of an access cannula.

Described within are systems, methods and apparatus for a bone mounted robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery system for precise implant position, soft tissue balancing and guidance of tools during a surgical procedure, particularly partial or total knee replacement procedure. The system features a bone mounted robotic arm with end-effector for precise positioning of surgical tool, position in of implants and balancing of soft tissues. The reconfigurable robotic system requires minimal training by surgeons, is intuitive to use similar to conventional instrumented surgery and has a small footprint. The system works with existing, conventional instruments, patient specific instruments, sensor-assisted systems and computer-assisted systems and does not require increased surgical time and safely provides the enhanced precision achievable by robotic-assisted systems and computer-assisted technologies.

An instrument for use in entering bone, comprising a blade having at least two prongs and a center cannulation to accommodate a guide wire, wherein the center-cannulated guide wire allows for precise placement of the instrument within the proximal femoral neck of an individual in the treatment of certain orthopedic conditions, including those related to the surgical correction of specific deformities, particular in children and adolescents, namely, proximal femoral deformities.

ORTHOPAEDIC FIXATION ASSEMBLY, SYSTEM, AND METHOD OF USE
20230346430 · 2023-11-02 · ·

An orthopaedic fixation assembly for prosthetic biologic attachment. The orthopaedic fixation assembly may include a main body with a longitudinally-extending stem having a proximal end, a distal end, and a cavity body. An anchor plug may be configured to be received within the stem cavity, and securable thereto via complementary mating surfaces. A spindle structure may be fixedly attached to the proximal end of the longitudinally-extending stem and protrude outwardly therefrom such that a portion of the structure extends externally beyond the resected cavity of the bone that may prevent rotational motion of the spindle. The spindle structure may have at least one compliant biasing member configured to apply a compressive force to the surrounding bone. A porous coating may be at the juncture between stem and spindle structure, on the spindle, and the splines and anti-rotation chocks, improving the initial stability of the implant and facilitating long-term bone ingrowth.

SURGICAL DRILL GUIDE SYSTEMS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

Surgical drill guides have modular configurations and are adapted to accommodate a wide range of anatomy. The surgical drill guides are adapted to be removed while leaving a guide wire in its intended location in human bone. The distal end of the drill guide acts as a safety stop for the guide wire by preventing the guide wire from penetrating too far past the far side of the bone.

FEMORAL FIXATION DEVICES, SYSTEMS, AND METHODS

A femoral fixation device may include a shaft and a helical thread disposed about the shaft between a first location and a second location along the shaft. The helical thread may include a concave undercut surface. The femoral fixation device may be configured such that, when the femoral fixation device is implanted within a neck and a head of a femoral bone: the first location, the second location, and the helical thread therebetween may be disposed within the head of the femoral bone; the concave undercut surface may be oriented toward a proximal end of the femoral fixation device; and the concave undercut surface may be configured to transmit at least one force from the head of the femoral bone to the neck of the femoral bone.

METHOD FOR IMPLANTING A HIP PROSTHESIS AND RELATED SYSTEM

A method of implanting a hip joint prosthesis into a patient can include obtaining image data of hip joint anatomy of the patient. Physical activities that the patient desires to participate in subsequent to implanting the hip prosthesis can be determined. A size and an initial placement of the hip joint prosthesis based on the image data can be determined. A desired range of motion of the hip joint prosthesis based on the determined physical activities can be determined. A plan can be created comprising a desired implanted location of the hip joint prosthesis and based on the desired range of motion. The plan can be incorporated onto a guide. The plan can be executed with the guide thereby implanting the hip joint prosthesis into the patient at the desired implanted position.
