SYSTEM FOR GENERATING PASSIVE-MODE-LOCKED PULSE LASER AT HIGH REPETITION RATE
Embodiments relate to a resonator including a graphene layer formed on a support, and a tapered fiber disposed around at least part of the support, close to the graphene layer, wherein the tapered fiber has different paths along which light travels in a region extending from one end and a region extending from the other end, and a passive-mode-locked pulse laser oscillation system including the same.
FREEFORM COLLIMATOR LENS FOR ANGLED FACET LASER DEVICES
An apparatus having a waveguide and a freeform collimating lens. The waveguide is characterized by a waveguide axis and a planar end having a normal axis that is inclined at an end angle that is greater than 0 degrees with respect to the waveguide axis. The freeform collimating lens collimates light leaving the planar end of the waveguide into a collimated light beam characterized by a beam direction that is parallel to the waveguide axis. The apparatus inhibits reflections from the planar end of the waveguide from propagating back down the waveguide while providing a collimated light beam having a direction parallel to the axis of the waveguide.
Optical fiber with variable absorption
An optical fiber may comprise a core doped with one or more active ions to guide signal light from an input end of the optical fiber to an output end of the optical fiber, a cladding surrounding the core to guide pump light from the input end of the optical fiber to the output end of the optical fiber, and one or more inserts formed in the cladding surrounding the core. Each of the one or more inserts may have a geometry (e.g., a cross-sectional size, a helical pitch, and/or the like) that varies along a longitudinal length of the optical fiber, which may cause an absorption of the pump light to be modulated along the longitudinal length of the optical fiber.
Supercontinuum light source comprising tapered microstructured optical fiber
The invention relates to a supercontinuum light source comprising a microstructured optical fiber and a pump light source. The microstructured optical fiber comprises a core and a cladding region surrounding the core, as well as a first fiber length section, a second fiber length section and an intermediate fiber length section between said first and second fiber length sections. The first fiber length section comprises a core with a first characteristic core diameter. The second fiber length section comprises a core with a second characteristic core diameter, smaller than said first characteristic core diameter, where said second characteristic core diameter is substantially constant along said second fiber length section. The intermediate length section of the optical fiber comprises a core which is tapered from said first characteristic core diameter to said second characteristic core diameter over a tapered length.
Coupling element with embedded modal filtering for a laser and/or photodiode
Embodiments are disclosed for a coupling element with embedded modal filtering for a laser and/or a photodiode. An example system includes a laser and an optical coupling element. The laser is configured to emit an optical signal. The optical coupling element is configured to receive the optical signal emitted by the laser. The optical coupling element is also configured to be connected to an optical fiber such that, in operation, the optical signal is transmitted from the laser to the optical fiber via the optical coupling element. Furthermore, the coupling element comprises a tapered section that provides modal filtering of the optical signal.
BEAM INTENSITY PROFILE TAILORING WITH A COMPOSITE, TAPERED OPTICAL FIBRE
A composite all optical-fibre based tapered photonic waveguide (110) including a single or multiple secondary waveguides (120) within or around a primary waveguide (118) is described. The composite optical fibre may also be termed a beam tailoring optical fibre (BT Fibre) (110). In use, at thelarger secondary end (114) both the primary waveguide (118) and the secondary waveguide/s (120) may guide modes at a particular wavelength. However, at the same wavelength, adiabatically tapering down the waveguides (118, 120) reduces the dimensions of the secondary waveguide/s (120) such that all the secondary waveguide/s (120) become effectively non-guiding at the smaller primary end (112), whilst the primary waveguide (118) still guides. In other words, the composite optical fibre is a spatially modulating optical fibre (110).
