Smoke mitigation assembly for bipolar pencil
An electrosurgical pencil includes a housing having proximal and distal ends, the proximal end adapted to connect to an energy source and the distal end adapted to receive an end effector assembly therein, the end effector assembly defining a surface area along a length thereof. An activation switch is operably associated with the housing and is configured to deliver electrosurgical energy to the end effector assembly upon actuation thereof. An air control valve is operatively coupled to the activation switch and is configured to simultaneously deliver a gas from a gas source to the surface area around the end effector upon actuation of the activation switch. One or more vents are defined in the distal end of the housing and are configured to direct the gas towards the surface area of the end effector.
HAND-HELD INSTRUMENT WITH DUAL ZONE FLUID REMOVAL
An electrosurgical instrument has dual zone smoke evacuation for providing efficient capture and evacuation of smoke generated during an electrosurgical procedure. A hand piece with a proximal and a distal end is coupled to a front piece having a distal opening leading into an interior conduit. An extendable section is at least partially disposed within the interior conduit and extends distally out of the distal opening of the front piece. The extendable section is selectively translatable within the interior conduit. A negative pressure source enables the capture and evacuation of smoke through both the extendable section and the interior conduit.
CAPSULOTOMY DEVICE
A surgical device and procedure are provided for smoothly and easily accessing tissue to perform microsurgery, including a capsulotomy of a lens capsule of an eye. The device includes a handpiece with a tip for insertion into an incision in the cornea of the eye. A sliding element is disposed within the handpiece and a suction cup is mounted to the sliding element. The sliding element can be translated to move the suction cup into and out of the handpiece. A compression mechanism associated with the suction cup and the handpiece compresses the suction cup for deployment through the tip of the handpiece. The suction cup can expand inside the anterior chamber into a cutting position on the lens capsule. A cutting element mounted to the suction cup is used to cut a portion of the lens capsule and to remove the portion from the eye. The cutting element may be mounted to a cutting element support structure in a way that prevents heating of the device.
VARIABLE ACTIVE SNUBBER CIRCUIT TO INDUCE ZERO-VOLTAGE-SWITCHING IN A CURRENT-FED POWER CONVERTER
An electrosurgical generator includes: a power supply configured to output a direct current; a current source coupled to the power supply and configured to output source current based on the direct current, and a power converter coupled to the current source, the power converter including at least one power switching element operated at a switching waveform. The power converter is configured to generate a converted waveform based on the source current. The electrosurgical generator also includes a controller coupled to the power converter and configured to modulate the switching waveform and a snubber circuit coupled to the current source and the power converter. The snubber circuit is configured to return the voltage at the at least one power switching element to zero after the power converter generates at least a portion of the converted waveform.
Electrosurgical device with internal digestor electrode
An electrosurgical wand is described, for treating a target tissue using electrosurgical energy, which has an elongate shaft with a handle end and a distal end. A first active electrode surface is disposed on the distal end of the shaft and a first digester electrode surface is recessed away from the first active electrode surface and electrically connected with the first active electrode surface. An aspiration aperture is also disposed adjacent the first active electrode surface and fluidly connected with an aspiration lumen, wherein the first digester electrode surface is disposed within the aspiration lumen.
Treatment system
A treatment system can include a treatment instrument with an operation input element that has a magnet; and a sensor that detects a parameter that changes with a movement of the magnet together with the operation input element based on an operation of the operation input element. The treatment system can also include a control apparatus that can control the supply of electrical energy to the treatment instrument for operation of the treatment instrument. The control apparatus includes a processor that can determine a relationship between a change in a distance between the sensor and the magnet and a change in the parameter, and to set, based on the relationship, a threshold for switching between an ON state and an OFF state of the supply of the electrical energy to the treatment instrument.
Phacomachine air pulse conversion for capsulotomy device
A surgical system for performing a capsulotomy of a lens capsule of an eye includes an elastic ring, a suction cup, an interface, a converter, and a control console. The elastic ring includes a conductive surface. The interface may be coupled to an air port and/or a fluid line of a phacomachine. The converter detects a pulse of air from the phacomachine via the interface, and produce an electrical signal in response. Fluid received from the phacomachine is delivered into the suction cup. The system is configured to remove the fluid from the suction cup and between the suction cup and a surface of the eye to form a suction seal. The control console is configured to, in response to receiving the electrical signal, drive a series of electrical pulses through the conductive surface of the elastic ring, causing the elastic ring to perform a tissue cutting operation.

Methods for enhancing and modulating reversible and irreversible electroporation lesions by manipulating pulse waveforms
A ratio of reversible electroporation and irreversible electroporation may be controlled by selecting a symmetric waveform or asymmetric waveform to either minimize or enhance irreversible effects on cells in the target tissue. Combined reversible and irreversible electroporation includes inserting one or more therapeutic electrodes into a target tissue, introducing an electroporation compound into the target tissue, selecting a pulse waveform that is either 1) asymmetric bipolar that has positive and negative pulses with different durations, or 2) symmetric bipolar that has positive and negative pulses with the same duration, and delivering to the target tissue a series of electrical pulses having the selected pulse waveform.
