COATINGS FOR TREATMENT DEVICE
A treatment device equipped with high frequency capability includes a pair of clasping jaws that serves as bipolar electrodes. Another treatment device equipped with high frequency capability includes a high-frequency knife that serves as monopolar electrode. An anti-fouling coating that minimizes or prevents adhesion of cauterized tissues is incorporated on the electrode surfaces. Durability and functioning of the anti-fouling coating is improved by one or a combination of increased coating thickness, increased density of the coating, and incorporation of glass and/or high molecular weight PFPE into the coating. The anti-fouling coating can be applied to different locations of the treatment portion, e.g., an insulated portion and a recess of an electrode, an insulated portion and a boundary portion with an electrode.
Surgical system including a control system having an RFID tag reader
A surgical cutting and fastening instrument comprises an end effector, a shaft connected to the end effector, and a handle connected to the shaft. The handle comprises an electric, DC motor connected to a drive train for powering the drive train and a plurality of series-connected DC power source connected to the motor for supplying electrical power to the motor. The handle also comprises a power source selection switch for connecting, when in a first state, all of the DC power sources to the motor, and, when in a second state, a subset of the DC power sources to the motor. Also disclosed are control systems for actuating a RF electrode in the end effector and for indicating actuation of the RF electrode.
Flexible electrosurgical instrument
An end effector of an electrosurgical device may include a first body, a first electrode on the left side of the first body, and a second electrode on the right side of the first body. The first and second electrodes may be configured to receive electrosurgical energy to treat tissue in a target treatment zone. The end effector may also include a fluid aspiration port in fluid communication with a fluid path. The fluid aspiration port may be configured to remove a material from the target treatment zone.
ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
An electrosurgical probe for ablating tissue includes an elongated shaft having an axis and a distal end. An electrically insulating housing at the distal end of the shaft has a window, and an interior channel in the shaft extends through the housing to the window. The window faces laterally relative to the axis, and a moveable member with a blade-like electrode edge is disposed within the window. A motor drives the energized electrode edge axially in the window to ablate tissue.
SEPARABLE SURGICAL INSTRUMENT JOINTS
In general, separable surgical instrument joints and methods of using separable surgical instrument joints are provided. In an exemplary embodiment, a surgical instrument includes a joint at which a distal tip of the surgical instrument is configured to articulate relative to an elongate shaft of the instrument. The surgical instrument is configured to move between first and second states. In the first state, the distal tip of the surgical instrument cannot be articulated relative to the elongate shaft. In the second state, the distal tip can be articulated relative to the elongate shaft.
Electrosurgical device
The electrosurgical device comprises at least one hollow body of elongated shape and having: a gripping portion, in turn, comprising a proximal ending part connectable to a current generator and to feeding means of an electro-conductive fluid; a contact portion comprising a distal ending part having one active electrode and one neutral electrode adapted to come into contact with the body of a patient; and at least one tubular duct passing through the hollow body and having one feeding hole of the fluid formed on the proximal ending part, and one delivery hole of the fluid formed on the distal ending part; the delivery hole is at least partially circular and extends around at least one of the electrodes.
Cutting electrode enhancement for laparoscopic electrosurgical device
An electrosurgical electrode for coagulating and cutting tissue includes a main body fabricated from a conductive material, and a conductive blade extending inwardly from an inner surface of the main body. The blade has an edge configured to concentrate RF for cutting tissue.
Surgical system and method of displaying information in the same
A surgical system according to one or more embodiments may include: manipulators respectively supporting an endoscope and first and second surgical instruments; a remote control apparatus including a display device, a first operation handle for right hand to operate the first surgical instrument, and a second operation handle for left hand to operate the second surgical instrument; and a control apparatus. The control apparatus may display, on the display device, a graphical user interface, overlapped with the image captured by the endoscope, the graphical user interface including a first area that displays information on the first surgical instrument to be operated by the first operation handle, a second area that displays information on the second surgical instrument to be operated by the second operation handle, and a third area that displays information on the endoscope, which are arranged side by side in order from right to left.
VESSEL SEALER WITH SMART CUTTING
A knife limit for a surgical instrument includes a housing having a shaft extending therefrom configured to support an end effector at a distal end thereof, the end effector including first and second jaw members. One or both of the jaw members including a knife channel defined therein and extending therealong to a distal portion thereof. A knife assembly is disposed within the housing and cooperates with a trigger to translate a knife within the knife channel to the distal portion of the jaw member upon actuation thereof. A knife limit button is disposed within the housing and is configured to limit the distal translation of the knife within the knife channel upon selective actuation thereof. The knife limit button is movable between a first position allowing full translation of the knife within the knife channel and a second position limiting distal translation of the knife within the knife channel.
Swappable High Mating Cycle Fiber Connection Interface
A medical system is disclosed that includes a medical device having an optical fiber, and an interchangeable connection component configured to provide a fiber optic connection between the medical device and capital equipment. The connection component is configured to facilitate cleaning and/or polishing of fiber optic interfaces include therewith. The connection component is also configured for replacement by a medical technician while the capital equipment is operational.
