There are disclosed devices, system and methods for a control device that controls a media player of a computer. The control device includes a circuit and various actuators that can be used to control the player. The actuators may be located in a pattern to be and may be configured to be activated by being stepped on. The control device sends loop in, loop out and a loop clear commands to the player upon receiving signals from a loop actuator. It also sends first speed, a second speed, a third speed, and a speed clear commands to the player upon receiving signals from a speed actuator. It sends pause, play and a global reset commands to the player upon receiving signals from a play/pause actuator. It may send skip backward and skip forward commands to the media player upon receiving signals from skip backward or skip forward actuators.

A remote control for remotely controlling an apparatus capable of working in different operative modesnamely receiving broadcasted signals, connecting to the Internet and functioning as a multimedia center. The remote control is able to cooperate with said television apparatus and comprises rotary means and actuating means. The said remote control is also configured to carry out different functions depending on which of said operative modes of the television apparatus has been selected and in reply to an execution of said rotary means and/or said actuating means of said remote control.

A multi-mode remote control unit that has both infrared command and laser pointer capability. In some examples, the multi-mode remote control unit together with one or both of a television receiver and a television may implement simulated touch gestures that typically require a touch sensitive screen. The multi-mode remote control unit in such an implementation advantageously may not include logic to implement simulated multi-touch gestures. Rather, one or both of the television receiver and the television may include logic to implement simulated touch gestures.

A remote controller is provided. The remote controller includes a transmitter; a microphone configured to receive an audio signal output from an audio output apparatus; a communicator comprising communication circuitry configured to perform communication with a display apparatus connected to the audio output apparatus and to transmit the audio signal received through the microphone to the display apparatus; and a processor configured to control the transmitter to transmit to the audio output apparatus a signal for controlling a power of the audio output apparatus based on information indicating whether there is a test tone in an audio signal received by the microphone and received from the display apparatus.

A display device includes a display unit configured to display a plurality of pieces of content received from a plurality of source devices connected to the display device; and a control unit configured to receive a control activation request for a first source device of the plurality of source devices from a remote control device, activate control of the first source device in response to the received control activation request, and control an operation of the first source device in response to the signal received from the remote control device.

Remote control devices to interface with audience measurement meters are disclosed. An example remote control device to interface with an audience measurement meter includes an audience management controller to, responsive to a gender value input via a user interface of the remote control device, store the gender value, responsive to an age value input via the user interface of the remote control device, store the age value, generate a message including the gender value and age value, and a transmitter to transmit the message to the audience measurement meter, the message including a sequence of infrared codes.

A method and system to navigate viewable content in the context of television entertainment is provided. In one example embodiment, the system comprises a presentation module to present main content on a display screen, a communications module to receive a first request associated with a first directional key on a remote control device, a navigation mode detector to determine a navigation mode associated with the first request; a margin menu module to activate a margin menu associated with the determined navigation mode. The margin menu may be presented along one of the margins of a display screen, while permitting viewing of the main content.

A method and system are provided. The method includes obtaining a television video from a background server and displaying the television video. A capture instruction for the television video is received from a remote control device. In response to receiving the capture instruction, the capture instruction is transmitted to the background server, and a video capture mode is entered.

An interactive media device comprises a remote control interface that receives a wireless signal from a corresponding remote control with an emergency button. A controller decodes the wireless signal to determine if the user has pressed a button of the remote control to operate an associated television or if the user has pressed the emergency button on the remote control. If the user has pressed a button of the remote control to operate the associated television, then a television interface that issues an instruction based on the wireless signal to the associated television. However, if the user has pressed the emergency button, a medical emergency interface that issues an alert to a local or remote response unit.
