Method and apparatus for analyzing acetone in breath
Methods and devices are provided for analyzing acetone in breath. One such method comprises disposing a reactant in a reaction zone within the breath analysis device, wherein the reactant comprises a primary amine disposed on a surface, and wherein the reaction zone has an optical characteristic that is at a reference level. It also comprises pre-storing a liquid nitroprusside solution within the breath analysis device separately from the reactant. The method further comprises using the breath analysis device to cause the breath to contact the reactant in the reaction zone so that the acetone in the breath reacts with the reactant to form a reaction product and, after the reaction product has been formed, using the breath analysis device to cause the nitroprusside solution to contact and react with the reaction product and to facilitate a change in the optical characteristic of the reaction zone relative to the reference level. The method also comprises using the breath analysis device to detect the change in the optical characteristic to sense the acetone in the breath. Apparatuses that use these methods are also described.
MEASURING AND MONITORING SKIN FEATURE COLORS, FORM AND SIZE
Kits, diagnostic systems and methods are provided, which measure the distribution of colors of skin features by comparison to calibrated colors which are co-imaged with the skin feature. The colors on the calibration template (calibrator) are selected to represent the expected range of feature colors under various illumination and capturing conditions. The calibrator may also comprise features with different forms and size for calibrating geometric parameters of the skin features in the captured images. Measurements may be enhanced by monitoring over time changes in the distribution of colors, by measuring two and three dimensional geometrical parameters of the skin feature and by associating the data with medical diagnostic parameters. Thus, simple means for skin diagnosis and monitoring are provided which simplify and improve current dermatologic diagnostic procedures.
Method for providing information related to skin and electronic device using the same
An electronic device and method are disclosed herein. The electronic device includes a sensor and a processor. The processor implements the method, including measuring infrared light corresponding to a user using the sensor, and detecting biometric information of the user if the infrared information satisfies a predetermined condition.
Non-invasive and non-contact measurement in early therapeutic intervention
Systems and methods for non-invasive and/or non-contact measurement of a subject's tremor in the context of therapeutic intervention is presented. The system includes a memory, a communications interface, a sensor to measure a signal associated with position or motion of an extremity of the subject, and a processor. The processor is configured to receive the signal from the sensor. The processor is further configured to communicate, via the communications interface, the signal, login credentials, and position or motion data to a remote server coupled to a remote electronic health record database. The remote server is configured to receive the signal from the sensor. The processor is configured to receive an analysis that quantified the severity of tremor.
HIGH-SPEED, DENTAL OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY SYSTEM
A dental optical coherence tomography system for scanning a sample has a swept source laser configured to generate output light having a range of wavelengths. Two or more optical channels each provide a reference and sample path for the output light, wherein each optical channel has a corresponding detector to provide an output signal according to combined light from the sample and reference, wherein the detector output signal characterizes back-reflected or back-scattered light from the sample path over a range of depths below a surface. A scanning reflector simultaneously directs sample path output light from each of the two or more channels toward the sample surface and directs returned light from the sample to the corresponding sample path and detector. A processor is in signal communication with the detector for each optical channel and that is configured to record and store results from the output signals received from each detector.
Opto-electronic biopotential controller
The technology provides a system and method for simulating and detecting bio signals such as brain bio-signals. Optical fibers provide modulated signals received from an optical signal modulator. The modulated signals are received by a set of emission elements disposed within the phantom body, which output corresponding electrical signals. The electrical signals are detected by a set of sensors and evaluated by a receiver device, such as for an electroencephalograph (EEG), electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG) or magnetoencephalography (MEG) diagnostic system. A controller manages the modulation of light signals so that specific electrical signals can be generated as desired. Because tens, hundreds or thousands of emission elements may be arranged in the phantom body, the controller can manage operation of the optical signal modulator so that the precise physical location of each emission element can be mapped quickly and efficiently. The controller may also detect defective components in a similar manner.
SURGICAL SITE MEASUREMENT, AND CAMERA CALIBRATION USING FIDUCIAL MARKERS ON SURGICAL TOOLS
Calibration of parameters of an endoscopic or laparoscopic camera is conducted while the camera is in use capturing images of a surgical procedure at a surgical site. The surgical procedure is performed using a surgical instrument marked with a fiducial pattern. A processor receives image data from images captured by the camera and uses machine vision to detect points of the pattern, and carries out an optimization to determine the 3D pose of the surgical instrument relative to the camera and the camera parameters. Once calibration parameters are determined, 3D measurements between measurement points in the body cavity may be estimated.
