Components for artificial joints
A component of an artificial joint according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, inter alia, a base plate and a post selectively removable from the base plate. Further, an outer surface of the post includes a layer of the bone ingrowth material along substantially the entire length of the post.
Surface treatment process for implants made of titanium alloy
A titanium 6 Al/4V alloy is provided with a surface topography that is similar to the Osseotite® surface produced on commercially pure titanium. Native oxide is removed from the Ti 6Al/4V alloy, followed by contacting the metal at ambient temperature with an aqueous hydrochloric acid solution containing a relatively small amount of hydrofluoric acid.
ACETABULAR CUP ASSEMBLY FOR MULTIPLE BEARING MATERIALS
A modular acetabular cup assembly for use with multiple bearing liners is disclosed. The acetabular cup assembly includes a shell having a tapered inner wall and two circumferential grooves. The shell may be used with polyethylene, ceramic, metal, and other types of liners.

Coaxial screw gear sleeve mechanism
An improved mechanism for expanding or lifting a device in accordance with various embodiments of the present invention is a coaxial screw gear sleeve mechanism. In various embodiments, coaxial screw gear sleeve mechanisms includes a post with a threaded exterior surface and a corresponding sleeve configured to surround the post, the corresponding sleeve having a threaded interior surface configured to interface with the threaded exterior surface of the post and a geared exterior surface. A drive mechanism can be configured to interface with the geared exterior surface of the sleeve, causing a device utilizing such a mechanism to expand or lift between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration.
COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR CREATING NANOSCALE SURFACE GEOMETRY ON A COBALT CHROMIUM IMPLANTABLE DEVICE
Compositions and methods for etching an implantable device having a cobalt chrome surface are disclosed. The compositions generally include at least two mineral acids, iron (Fe), and certain component metals of the cobalt chrome to be etched. For example, when etching a cobalt chromium molybdenum alloy, the metals may include chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), and optionally, cobalt (Co). The at least two mineral acids may include hydrochloric acid (HCl), nitric acid (HNO.sub.3), and hydrofluoric acid (HF). Alternatively, the composition may be an electrolyte composition useful for electrochemical etching of the implantable device. These compositions and methods may generate nanoscale geometry on the surface of the implantable device to provide implants with improved osseointegration, biocompatibility, and healing after surgery.
OSTEOINDUCTIVE IMPLANTS AND RELATED MANUFACTURING METHODS
An implant device configured to be at least partially in contact with bone on implantation and having an improved osteoinductive feature to enhance new bone formation. The implant device has one or more bone growth surfaces extending from a structurally solid feature of the implant device. The one or more bone growth surfaces are configured to mimic adult trabecular bone by having recesses and prominences. The recesses extend 10 to 500 microns in depth and may have an increasing inclination from the surface extending inwardly and not parallel to opposing or adjacent walls. The one or more bone growth surfaces form a random and/or non-random network.
Six degree spine stabilization devices and methods
An implant stabilizes two adjacent bones of a joint, while enabling a natural kinematic relative movement of the bones. Support components are connected to each bone of the joint, and a flexible core is interposed between them. The core and at least one of the support components are provided with a smooth sliding surface upon which the core and support component may slide relative to each other, enabling a corresponding movement of the bones. The surfaces may have a mating curvature, to mimic a natural movement of the joint. The core is resilient, and may bend or compress, enabling the bones to move towards each other, and or to bend relative to each other.
Hip implant with porous body
A hip implant having two distinct bodies, a neck body and a bone fixation body. The neck body is formed from a solid metal and has an interface for connecting to a femoral ball. The bone fixation body has an elongated shape and is formed as a porous structure that is inserted into an intramedullary canal of a patient.
Surface treated medical implant devices
A surgical implant having a surface treatment which contains primary cavities and secondary cavities. The primary cavities are larger than the secondary cavities and the primary cavities have an average length ranging from 20-500 micrometers. The surface treatment includes recasted material adjacent to a plurality of the primary cavities.
